Girls Varsity Basketball wins District Championship by defeating Milford, 24-22; Eagles notch 20th win of the season

Eagles Win: 24 - 22
Friday night, the Girls Basketball team defeated Milford 24-22 to win the MHSAA District Championship, Senior Parker Ostach led the Eagles with 10 points, including the game-winning basket with under a minute to go. Senior Skylar Halbrook added 7 points, sophomore Aubrin Miller scored 3 points, and senior Molly Marino and sophomore Peyton Baer each added 2 points. The victory was the Eagles' 20th of the season, and the District trophy joins the LVC Conference trophy they won last week. Lakeland will next play Clarkston on Monday night at 7pm. That Regional Semi-Final game will be played at Milford High School. A ticket link will be posted tomorrow. Super shoutout to the numerous Lakeland students who provided a hearty fan section at Wednesday and Friday's games. Also a round of applause to the large crowd of other Lakeland supporters who cheered on the Eagles this week.

Wednesday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated Walled Lake Northern 45-37 to advance to the MHSAA District Final. Parker Ostach scored 15 points to lead the Eagles.  Molly Marino added 12 points, Skylar Halbrook scored 6 points, and Alena Tiernan and Aubrin Miller both chipped in 3 points.  The win marked the 3rd one of the season for Lakeland over Bogie Lake Rd. rival WLN.   The team advances to the District Final game where it takes on Milford, again for the 3rd time this season.

LVC CHAMPS!! The Girls Varsity Basketball team traveled to Walled Lake Northern on Thursday night and came home with a huge win, 36-18. With the win, the Eagles clinched a share of the LVC league championship for the first time in program history! 32 minutes of outstanding effort and focus on the defensive end led the way as the Eagles outscored the Knights 25-12 in the second half. Leading the way was senior Parker Ostach with 14 points. Senior Skylar Halbrook had 10 points. Senior Molly Marino had 5 points and senior Maddie Borders chipped in 3 points.  The Eagles finish the regular season with a record of 18-4 (14-2 LVC champs). We now shift our focus to next week as we play Wednesday night to open up MHSAA District play. Go Eagles!

Monday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball earned its 17th win of the season, defeating Waterford Mott, 62-39. Nine players scored for the Eagles led by Parker Ostach's 17 points. Maddie Borders poured in 13 points, Skylar Halbrook added 11 points, Aubrin Miller finished with 7 points, and Molly Marino and Kalie Rhines each chipped in 4 points. Lakeland will play its final regular season game this Thursday at Walled Lake Northern. Next week, the Eagles will be competing in the MHSAA District tournament.

Last night, the Girls Varsity Basketball improved to 16-4 on the season (12-2 in the LVC) with a solid 55-30 road win against Walled Lake Western. The Eagles shared the ball very well on offense, leading to a number of baskets in the paint. Skylar Halbrook led the way with 17 points while Aubrin Miller added 12 points. Peyton Baer (11 pts) and Molly Marino (7 pts) also contributed multiple baskets for Lakeland. Lakeland has two regular season games remaining: Monday at Waterford Mott and Thursday at Walled Lake Northern.

Last night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team welcomed Birmingham Seaholm for a non-league game to wrap up the home portion of our season. The Eagles battled hard throughout the game but ultimately fell to the Maples, 37-32. The Maples made a few more plays down the stretch to hold off Lakeland late in the fourth quarter. The Eagles were led by sophomore Aubrin Miller who had 14 points. Senior Parker Ostach had 11 points. Senior Molly Marino chipped in 5 points on the night. The Eagles fall to 15-4 (11-2 LVC) on the season. We are back in action on Friday as we travel to Walled Lake Western. Go Eagles!

Eagles Win: 55 - 23
Thursday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team welcomed Waterford Kettering and came away with a 55-23 victory. The Eagles were extremely focused from the opening tip as they jumped out to an early 19-2 first quarter lead. Lakeland was even more impressive in the 2nd quarter as the Eagles scored 27 points in the quarter to take a commanding 46-7 lead into the half. The Eagles were sharp offensively and shared the ball well, often making the extra pass for a better shot for their teammate. Nine players scored on the night led by senior Skylar Halbrook's 13 points. Junior Kalie Rhines had 8 points. Senior Molly Marino and sophomore Aubrin Miller had 7 points each. Sophomore Peyton Baer, senior Parker Ostach, and junior Brynn Taliercio contributed 5 points each. To add to fun of the evening, the seniors wore some fun socks (see photo). The win moves the Eagles record to 15-3 (11-2 LVC) on the year. The Eagles are back in action as they host Birmingham Seaholm on Wednesday for our last home game of the season. Go Eagles!

Tuesday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted South Lyon in a battle for sole possession of second place in the LVC. The Eagles came away with a big win, 34-30, to avenge an early season loss to South Lyon. The Eagles were down early in the first quarter, 12-2, but responded with a run of their own to cut the deficit to 18-16 at the half. The Eagles were focused and enthusiastic on the defensive end in the second half, eventually pulling away with a hard fought 34-30 victory. Leading the way was senior Parker Ostach with 10 points. Senior Molly Marino had 9 points. Sophomore Aubrin Miller had 7 points and junior Brynn Taliercio had 4 points. The Eagles are now 14-3 (10-2 LVC) on the season and host Waterford Kettering on Thursday night. Go Eagles!

Eagles Win: 37 - 29
Friday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball earned a physical win over Milford, defeating the Mavericks, 37-29. The Eagles opened the game taking a 9-4 lead after the first quarter. But Milford went on a 9-2 run of its own to open the 2nd quarter, leading to a 16-16 tie at halftime. In the second half, Lakeland made plays at the right time, including a huge 3-pointer by Molly Marino to pad the Eagles' lead. Marino finished with 8 points, Parker Ostach added 7 points, and Peyton Baer finished with 6 points. Skylar Halbrook, Brynn Taliercio, and Alena Tiernan also added 4 points each. Lakeland is now 13-3, 9-2 in the LVC. The Eagles host South Lyon on Tuesday.

Tuesday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team used its stout defense to carry it to a 48-20 win against Waterford Mott. Leading the way for the Eagles was junior Kalie Rhines who finished with 12 points on the night. Parker Ostach (10 pts), Molly Marino (8 pts), and Alena Tiernan (8 pts) also provided the spark on offense. The team moves to 12-3 on the season, 8-2 in the LVC.  Friday, the Eagles will host Milford in the 5:30pm game as part of the Girls/Boys Showcase evening.

Friday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team moved to 11-3 on the season with a convincing 56-16 win over Walled Lake Central.  Besides the big win, the Eagles celebrated Senior Night, recognizing the contributions of the following student-athletes:  Maddie Borders, Skylar Halbrook, Molly Marino, and Parker Ostach. Lakeland started off slow, and after the Vikings hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the first quarter, the Eagles found themselves trailing, 12-7.  But, Lakeland held Walled Lake Central scoreless for the next 15 minutes of the game while putting up 30+ points in a row of its own.  In total, the Eagles outscored the Vikings 49-4 over the final three quarters of action. Ostach led nine players in the scorebook with 13 points. Peyton Baer added 9 points, while Maddie Borders, Aubrin Miller, Brynn Taliercio, and Alena Tiernan each added 6 points. Lakeland has two home games this week:  Tuesday versus Waterford Mott and Friday versus Milford.

Wednesday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team lost a tough home match-up with South Lyon East, 44-40.   Parker Ostach scored 11 points for the Eagles, while fellow senior Molly Marino added 9 points, including a late 3-pointer that gave Lakeland an outside chance for a comeback.  Brynn Taliercio and Aubrin Miller contributed 5 points each. On Friday, the Eagles will be hosting Walled Lake Central as part of the Girls/Boys Basketball Showcase.  In addition, the program will be honoring its four seniors at the conclusion of its game:  Maddie Borders, Skylar Halbrook, Molly Marino, and Parker Ostach.

Friday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted Walled Lake Western. The Eagles held off a scrappy Warrior team and pulled out a 53-31 win to move to 10-2 (6-1 LVC) on the year. The Eagles were clicking most of the night on the offensive end with 9 different players scoring. Parker Ostach led the way with 17 points, Molly Marino had 9 points, Aubrin Miller and Skylar Halbrook had 6 points each, and Brynn Taliercio had 5 points.  Junior Leah Willis hit a 3-pointer to snag her first career varsity points. The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday when they host South Lyon East.

Last night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team remained undefeated at home, beating Walled Lake Northern, 43-39. The Eagles proved that games are marathons not sprints, and that a win is always there for the team willing to play all four quarters. Northern opened up the game on a 9-0 run; but Lakeland responded with a 10-0 run of its own to take a 10-9 lead after the 1st quarter. Northern lead by 2 at halftime, and the Knights built their lead up to 8 points during the 3rd quarter, but the Eagles cut the lead to 1 point heading into the 4th. The final quarter was all about Lakeland, as the Eagles built a 7-point lead behind a stout defensive effort, giving up only 2 buckets in the final 8 minutes (including a meaningless buzzer beater 3-pointer) to earn the 43-39 win. Aubrin Miller led the scoring for Lakeland with 15 points. Brynn Taliercio added 7 points (along with several key steals in the 4th), Molly Marino and Parker Ostach each contributed 5 points, and Skylar Halbrook and Peyton Baer both chipped in 4 points. Lakeland remains in first place in the LVC as it prepares for its next game this Friday at Lakeland as part of the Girls-Boys showcase doubleheader versus Walled Lake Western.

Tuesday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team saw its winning streak come to an end as they were simply outplayed on the road at South Lyon.  The home team defeated the Eagles, 45-22. The home team Lions played with better energy and effort throughout the game, and they executed better than Lakeland did.  That's usually a recipe for victory. For the Eagles, Parker Ostach led with 7 points, Aubrin Miller added 6 points, and Maddie Borders finished with 3 points. Lakeland, still holding on to a share of first place in the LVC, returns to the court next Tuesday when it hosts Walled Lake Northern for another important conference game.

Eagles Win: 35 - 33
Saturday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team made it 8 wins in a row, but this one was a bit sweeter as most rivalry wins do.  The Eagles came from behind to beat Milford on the road, 35-33. In the second half, the Eagles had a lead that they saw disappear, falling behind the home team 27-24 late in the 4th. But senior Molly Marino hit a huge 3-pointer to tie the game, then the Eagles made a few more plays than their opponent to earn the victory. Marino paced the Eagles with 11 points as part of a solid all-around effort on her part. Parker Ostach, Brynn Taliercio, and Aubrin Miller each contributed 6 points. Lakeland now sits a 8-1 overall, and 4-0 (first place) in the LVC.  The team travels for another big LVC game this Tuesday at South Lyon.

Last night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team went on the road to South Lyon East last night and came home with a gritty, tough win, 36-31. The team was extremely focused on the defensive end, led by the efforts of junior Brynn Taliercio. The Eagles had great execution on the offensive end late in the game to pull out the win. Senior Parker Ostach led with/13 pts. Junior Brynn Taliercio scored 10 pts. Senior Skylar Halbrook had 4 pts. Senior Molly Marino & junior Alena Tiernan had 3 each. The win moves Lakeland to 7-1 (3-0 LVC) on the year. Next up: a game at Milford this Friday as part of the Varsity Showcase series. Girls will play at 5:30.

Friday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team won its 6th game in a row, traveling to Holly and beating the Bronchos, 61-23.  Nine Eagles scored in the offensive outburst. Parker Ostach scored 16 points and Skylar Halbrook finished with 12 points. Additional scoring came from Aubrin Miller (8pts), Kalie Rhines (7pts), and Molly Marino (5pts). An additional highlight in the game was Jessie Liker scoring the first 3 points of her varsity career. Lakeland moves to 6-1 for the season. The Eagles have a loaded slate of LVC games coming up, including road games this week at South Lyon East and Milford.

Wednesday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated Pinckney, 50-31. Parker Ostach led the way for the Eagles with 20 points. Peyton Baer added 7 points, while Aubrin Miller and Skylar Halbrook each scored 6 points. Kennedy Canterbury notched her first varsity bucket in the game. Lakeland is now 5-1 on the season.  The Eagles return to the court on Friday with an away game at Holly.

On Tuesday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team welcomed the Bulldogs of Brighton for their last basketball game before winter break. The Eagles pulled out a 40-35 win over the Bulldogs. It was a physical and tough game throughout but the Eagles hit their stride in the 3rd quarter as they led 32-23 going into the 4th. Some timely buckets and free-throws allowed the Eagles to hold off the Bulldogs in the end. Sophomore Aubrin Miller led the way with 11 points. Senior Parker Ostach and sophomore Peyton Baer had 7 points each. Senior Molly Marino added 6 points in the victory. The win pulls the Eagles to 4-1 (2-0 LVC) on the young season. The Eagles are back in action on January 3rd, 2024 when they host Pinckney. Go Eagles!

Friday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team went on the road and came home with their 2nd LVC of the season. The Eagles defeated Waterford Kettering, 59-21. The Eagles once again used their defense to spark their offense in a well-balanced scoring attack. Senior Molly Marino led with 12 points. Sophomores Aubrin Miller & Peyton Baer had 10 points each. Senior Parker Ostach had 7 points & senior Maddie Borders chipped in 6 points. Junior Molly Farquhar hit a three pointer for her first career Varsity points.  Lakeland returns to action at home on Tuesday, hosting Brighton.

On Wednesday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team won their home opener vs. Wixom St. Catherine, coming from behind to win 46-37. It was a back and forth game for most of the night until the Eagles took charge in a decisive 4th quarter. The Eagles executed well on both ends of the court to ourscore St. Catherine 16-5 to pull away late in the game. Senior Parker Ostach led the way with 22 points. Senior Skylar Halbrook had 7 points. Junior Brynn Taliercio and sophomore Peyton Baer had 5 points each. The Eagles are now 2-1 on the season and play again tomorrow night at Waterford Kettering. Go Eagles!

Friday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team went on the road and picked up their first win of the season, beating Walled Lake Central 52-17. The Eagles had a sluggish first half on the offensive end of the floor as they took a 16-10 lead into halftime. The third quarter was a different story as the Eagles turned up the defensive pressure. Defense turned into offense as the Eagles outscored the Vikings 27-3 in the third quarter. Leading the way for the Eagles was sophomore Aubrin Miller with 13 points. Senior Molly Marino and sophomore Peyton Baer each had 10 points. Senior Parker Ostach scored 8 points and junior Brynn Taliercio chipped in 5 points in the win. The win pushes the Eagles record to 1-1 (1-0 LVC) as they get ready for their home opener this Wednesday vs. St. Catherines of Wixom. Go Eagles!

Tuesday, the Girls Varsity Basketball team opened their season on the road at Northville. The Eagles fought hard throughout the game but came away with an opening night loss to the Mustangs, 48-35. The Eagles made several runs to get back into the game but couldn’t get key stops on the defensive end when needed. The Eagles were led by senior Parker Ostach with 13 points. Sophomores Aubrin Miller and Peyton Baer scored 7 points each. Senior Molly Marino chipped in 4 points in the loss on the road. The Eagles are back in action tonight (Friday) at 5:30pm at Walled Lake Central as they open up the LVC portion of their schedule. Go Eagles!
