Boys Varsity BasketballTuesday, January 20th, the Boys Varsity Basketball team could not recover from a slow start against Walled Lake Western, eventually losing to the Warriors, 52-43. Austin Porcasi led the Eagles with 16 points, while Tyler Johns added 9 points. Chase Carson (7 pts) and Dylan Perinoff (6 pts) also contributed multiple baskets. Lakeland moves to 8-6 on the season. The Eagles next play at South Lyon.

Girls Varsity Basketball defeats Walled Lake Western, 49-37
Girls Varsity BasketballTuesday, January 20th, the Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated a scrappy Walled Lake Western team, 49-37. Tied at halftime, the Eagles played much better team defense to pull away from the Warriors. Aubrin Miller scored 20 points to lead the Eagles’ offense. Haley Aberlich (10 pts), Peyton Baer (7 pts), and Anna Linen (5 pts) also scored multiple baskets. Lakeland also benefitted from solid minutes from the players off the bench. Lakeland moves to 6-4 on the season, 3-2 in the LVC.

Boys Varsity Ice HockeySaturday, January 17th, the Huron Valley United Hockey team welcomed the Rockford Rams all the way from the west side of the state.Ben Johnson got the start between the pipes, but the Rams got the upper hand scoring two goals in the first. Senior captain Killian Voorhies (Lakeland) made it a one goal game in the 2nd period by putting on a burst of speed to beat the Rams goalie up high. Alas, Rockford made good on the next four goals before Voorhies tapped in a backdoor pass from Lakeland's Levi Weinberger. Milford's Calvin Langoff made the outlet pass to Weinberger for the second assist.Milford sophomore Henry Stuart relieved Johnson late in the third period.Despite outshooting the Rams 48-26 the Titans took a 6-2 loss. Boys Varsity BasketballMonday, January 19th, the Boys Varsity Basketball team competed in the MLK Classic, defeating East English Village, 53-38.Tyler Johns, seeing his first varsity experience, scored 13 points to lead the Eagles. Chase Carson scored 11 points and was named MVP of the game. Dylan Perinoff (10 pts), Grant Thompson (8 pts and 6 rebounds), and Austin Porcasi (7 pts, 12 rebounds, 5 assists) also contributed to the offense. Boys Varsity SnowboardingMonday, January 19th, the LHS SBX teams faced the cold temps Monday evening for race #3 in the individual bracket. For the first time in memory, LHS saw siblings in the finals (way to go Andersons)!For the boys' team, Brady Roy had a solid night where he had three 1st places finishes then was eliminated in the small final. Rider Corbin Anderson made it through to the big final with two 1st place heats and two 2nd place heats. In the final heat (aka big final), Corbin placed 3rd overall for the night.Pictured below is the finalist for boys, with Corbin in 3rd.

For the first time in memory, LHS saw siblings in the finals (way to go Andersons)!For the girls' team, rider Kiara Wegmann had a 1st place run and a 2nd place run then was eliminated in the semi-final. Riders Kate Hanneman and Carly Anderson both battled through three heats making it to the final race. Carly finished 3rd overall for the night. Girls Junior Varsity Basketball loses at South Lyon East, 38-10
Girls Junior Varsity BasketballFriday January 16th, the Girls JV Basketball team kicked off January’s road trip off with a 38-10 loss at South Lyon East. The first quarter was evenly played to start. Lakeland was able to get few turnovers and was able to break South Lyon East’s press for four points by Morgan Ross and Hayden Pawlak. Despite the early success – the Wildcat’s press generated deflections, turnovers and scoring opportunities that created a 13-4 lead at the quarter. In the second quarter, Lakeland passed the ball well in their half court offence but was only able to muster a single free throw by Annika Chinavare. South Lyon East continued to press, generating turnovers, extending their halftime lead 24-5. Girls Junior Varsity Basketball falls to Walled Lake Northern, 21-13; Annika Chinavare scores 6 to lead the Eagles
Girls Junior Varsity BasketballTuesday, January 13th, the Girls JV Basketball team wrapped up an early season homestand with a 21-13 loss to the Knights of Walled Lake Northern.The Knights were pretty much forced to play a 2-3 zone as they only had 5 players available for the game. This zone created issues for the Eagles who were unable to score in the first half despite trying several different offensive strategies. The Knights, even though turning the ball over frequently, were able to convert on their opportunities, jumping out to a 13-point lead at the half. The Eagles came out of halftime with great energy. Jaylyn Rhines was able to convert on a three-pointer and a layup while Payton Gignac contributed a free throw to get Lakeland on the scoreboard. The Eagles' defense was able to keep the Knights from making a field goal, but they were able to go a perfect 4:4 from the line to maintain a 17-6 lead after three quarters. After executing their game plan for the first half leading to a 17-17 tie, the Eagles couldn't continue to slow down the home team, falling 56-39.Claire Linen led the Eagles with 9 points, while Haley Aberlich, Peyton Baer, and Anna Linen each finished with 8 points. Girls Junior Varsity Basketball rolls against Milford; Eagles defeat Mavericks, 32-14
Girls Junior Varsity BasketballFriday January 9, the Girls Junior Varsity kicked off the highly anticipated home Friday showcase vs the Milford Mavericks with a 32-14 victory. Lakeland started out in their ¾ court press again causing turnovers from the start but were able to convert these turnovers into points on this day. Seeing the ball go through the hoop was contagious as the Eagles converted on 8 baskets and 3 of 4 free throws to take a first quarter lead 19-6. The Mavericks pulled out all the stops in the second quarter (including using 6 players at one point) to outscore the Eagles 4-3. Morgan Ross’ three-point basket was enough in the quarter though to allow Lakeland to take a 22-10 lead into halftime. Lessons learned from previous games allowed the Eagles to stay focused and extend the lead vs. their rival in the quarter. Girls Junior Varsity BasketballTuesday January 6, the Girls Junior Varsity Basketball team returned to action after the holiday break starting LVC conference play hosting the Vikings of Walled Lake Central. Form the start the ¾ court pressing defense they Eagles employed generated numerous turnovers and scoring opportunities. Hayden Pawlak and Jaylyn Rhines were able to cash in on fast break layups in the first quarter leading to a 4-0 lead. The second quarter was more of the same with Lakeland only able to muster 1-point on a Payton Gignac free throw but was still able to extend their lead as they were able to keep the Vikings off the scoreboard for a 5-0 lead. Walled Lake Central came out of halftime, able to break into the score sheet, scoring 4 points in the quarter. Lakeland was up to the task, scoring 5-points of their own on a Morgan Ross basket and a Hayden Pawlak three-point shot at the end of the quarter. Please take a look at information regarding upcoming meetings for spring and fall athletic programs: Boys Golf- Jan. 22 (TODAY)- During seminar in the Multi-purpose Room behind the athletic office. Students should report to seminar, check in and then head to the meeting. Attendance will be taken. This meeting is for student-athletes only. Football Player and Parent Meeting Jan. 22 (TODAY)- This meeting is for anyone interested in playing football next fall. The meeting will take place at 6:00pm in the new Multi-Purpose spaces located by the competition pool. Both parents and student-athletes are encouraged to attend.

Lakeland hires Mark Wolter as new Boys Golf coach
Lakeland HS is proud to announce the hiring of Mark Wolter as the school’s new Boys Golf head coach.Wolter joins Lakeland after serving as head coach at Cheryl Stockwell High School. In addition to golf, Wolter has coached a wide variety of youth sports, bringing a well-rounded and development-focused approach to athletics.A former multi-sport athlete, Wolter competed in golf, baseball, and football at Hillsdale College, where he developed a strong foundation in teamwork, discipline, and competitive excellence. His diverse athletic background allows him to connect with student-athletes and emphasize both individual growth and team success.Coach Wolter said, "I am grateful and fortunate to be a part of the Lakeland Athletic Program. I look forward to utilizing the skill sets needed to make Lakeland Golf a perennial powerhouse. Kaden Eller earns All-State honors in football; commits to Davenport University
Congratulations to senior Kaden Eller, an offensive lineman on the football team, who recently was named Division 2 1st Team All-State by the Detroit Free Press. Kaden also earned 2nd Team All-State recognition by the Detroit News. All-State honors don't happen too often, so Kaden's achievement is pretty special.In addition, Kaden just this week announced his commitment to play football at Davenport University after receiving an offer during his recent visit.

Girls Golf team earns several All-State recognitions
On the heels of the most successful season in program history, the Girls Golf team earned some additional post-season accolades:--The Regional/States lineup of Aubrin Miller, Cailyn Milewski, Claire Linen, Abigail Ngo and Anna Linen earned Academic Team All-State recognition.--Freshman Abigail Ngo was one of 12 players selected as a Division 1 All-State player.--Seniors Anna Linen and Claire Linen earned Academic Individual All-State recognition (cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher as a senior).

Brynn Taliercio to play in the MHSSBCA All-Star game
Tuesday, July 15th, recent graduate Brynn Taliercio will be participating in the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association All-Star game being played at Davenport University. Taliercio, bound for Grand Valley State University, will compete with the D1 White team in a game that begins at 10:00am. Taliercio earned HM All-State honors this year after being named 1st Team All-State her junior year.Click here for game information
