Last night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team remained undefeated at home, beating Walled Lake Northern, 43-39. The Eagles proved that games are marathons not sprints, and that a win is always there for the team willing to play all four quarters.
Northern opened up the game on a 9-0 run; but Lakeland responded with a 10-0 run of its own to take a 10-9 lead after the 1st quarter. Northern lead by 2 at halftime, and the Knights built their lead up to 8 points during the 3rd quarter, but the Eagles cut the lead to 1 point heading into the 4th. The final quarter was all about Lakeland, as the Eagles built a 7-point lead behind a stout defensive effort, giving up only 2 buckets in the final 8 minutes (including a meaningless buzzer beater 3-pointer) to earn the 43-39 win.
Aubrin Miller led the scoring for Lakeland with 15 points. Brynn Taliercio added 7 points (along with several key steals in the 4th), Molly Marino and Parker Ostach each contributed 5 points, and Skylar Halbrook and Peyton Baer both chipped in 4 points.
Lakeland remains in first place in the LVC as it prepares for its next game this Friday at Lakeland as part of the Girls-Boys showcase doubleheader versus Walled Lake Western.
