Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team caps fantastic season by finishing 9th at the MHSAA State Finals

On Friday 11/17 and Saturday 11/18 the Girls Swim and Dive team traveled to Eastern Michigan University to cap off the Fall Sports season in the Huron Valley School District, and cap it off they did, putting together one great performance after another en route to finishing 9th overall at the State Championships. Kicking off the prelim session on Friday was the 200 Medley Relay team of sophomore Nora Spangler, freshman Annabelle Thompson, sophomore Amelie Strickfaden, and junior Brooke Stec, who swam a best time of 1:53.74, the 18th fastest time in the event. Along with Spangler, Thompson and Strickfaden, sophomore diver Kennedy Foote made her state meet debut, competing in the preliminary round of the diving competition, where she placed 33rd. Thompson followed up her medley relay performance by qualifying for finals in the 100 Freestyle where she medaled with a 10th place finish. Junior Mya Hutchinson also won a medal with her 12th place finish in the 200 Freestyle while also swimming a personal best in the prelims of the 100 Freestyle. Sophomore Diver Lola Beer improved on her 14th place finish in 2022, moving up to 11th while improving her score by 30 points! Junior Elle Dameworth put together a pair of medal worthy performances, placing 9th in the finals of the 100 Fly and tying for 6th in the 200 Freestyle, both with personal best and team record times. For her efforts in the 200 Free, Elle was recognized with First team All State Honors. Building off their individual swims, Dameworth, Thompson and Hutchinson were joined by junior Coral Hebert, who placed 25th in the 50 Freestyle, to swim the 200 Freestyle relay. The foursome set new team records in prelims and finals en route to a 4th place finish and First Team All State recognition. Dameworth also produced a new team record in the 50 free on the lead leg of the relay. Their time of 1:38.26 makes them the fastest 200 Freestyle relay team in district history. Closing out the meet, those four were back at it again with Dameworth, Hebert, Thompson and Hutchinson again racing to team records in prelims and finals in the relay as well as on the lead off leg on both days. Stopping the clock with a time of 3:34.63, the team placed 5th overall, again earning 1st Team All State Honors. The team tied the most ever individual medalists at a state finals in district history with four, becoming the first team with two 1st Team All State Relays at the same meet. Over the course of the season, new team records in 12 of 13 events this year a total of 29 times, with 9 of those records coming at the State Championships. With their 9th place finish, the 2023 Girls Swim and Dive team became the 3rd highest finishing team ever at the state finals, following only a pair of 7th place finishes 16 years ago in 2006 and 2007, and concluded the most successful top to bottom Swim and Dive season in Huron Valley School district history. Lakes Valley Conference Girls Swim & Dive Championship Meet Scores: 1st- Huron Valley United 437 2nd- South Lyon East 428 3rd- South Lyon 409 4th- Walled Lake United 303 5th- Walled Lake Northern 265 6th- Waterford 41 This past Saturday, the Girls Swim and Dive team competed in its final competition of the regular season, the Lakes Valley Conference championship meet. The team had already earned a share of the LVC title courtesy of its perfect 5-0 conference record, but needed a first place finish to ensure sole possession of the conference crown. It takes champions to win a championship, and the team competed like champions up and down the roster on Saturday, overcoming challenges outside of their control to clinch a victory prior to the final race of the day. Throughout the meet, the team had 12 different athletes earn 29 All Conference Honors, 6 athletes receive All LVC Honorable mention recognition,swim to 7 new team records, and bring home three LVC titles courtesy of first place finishes by junior Elle Dameworth in the 200 Freestyle, junior Mya Hutchinson in the 500 Freestyle, and in the 200 Freestyle Relay where Dameworth and Hutchinson teamed up with freshman Annabelle Thompson and junior Coral Hebert. These are the second Lakes Valley Conference Meet and overall Lakes Valley Conference titles won by the team in the last 3 years, but the first outright overall championship. The team leaves the meet with four individual state qualifiers, 3 qualifying relays, and multiple top 16 performances in the Division 1 rankings as they set their sights to complete the season with a Top 10 Finish at the State Finals, @ Eastern Michigan University November 17th and 18th. Divers Lola Beer, Kennedy Foote and Leah Huntoon will compete at the Region 1 diving competition hosted at Milford High School this Thursday as they look to join their teammates as state qualifiers. Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team moves to 7-0 on the season with a 117-68 win over Notre Dame Prep

Last Wednesday, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim and Dive team hosted Notre Dame Prep for Senior Night, closing out the dual meet season with a 117-68 win. With its victory, the team completed the first undefeated dual meet season in district history for any Boy or Girls swim and dive team, raising their record to 7-0 on the year, to go along with their district best ever 2nd place Oakland County finish in September. To date, the team has set 11 new team records and holds Top 16 marks in Division 1 in the 100 Freestyle, 200 and 400 Freestyle relays as well as in Diving. The final regular season competition of the season is the LVC Championship meet, this Friday and Saturday @ South Lyon East HS, where the team looks to pair its 5-0 LVC record with a 1st place finish to bring home the overall LVC championship.

Last Thursday, the Huron Valley United Girls’ Swim and Dive team completed its LVC schedule with a 109-70 home win against Waterford. The meet was full of standout performances including sophomore Lola Beer breaking the team record in diving, scoring 247.05 points, which ranks 8th in the state this year. Athletes of the meet were sophomore Sydney Latozas for a pair of personal best performances in the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle, and freshman Lauren Sparks who produced stellar marks in the 200 Free and 100 backstroke. With the win, the team moves to 6-0 on the season and 5-0 in LVC competition, becoming the first Boys or Girls Swim and Dive team to complete an undefeated conference regular season in district history. The team hosts Notre Dame Prep on Wednesday at 6pm for Senior Night as they look to close out an undefeated season. LVC competition concludes next week with the Conference championship meet Friday 11/3 (prelims) and Saturday 11/4 (finals) @ South Lyon East HS

Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive  On Friday and Saturday, qualifying swimmers and divers traveled to Calvin University to compete in the MISCA Invitational. Sophomore Lola Beer placed 13th overall in the diving event, and was the 9th best Division 1 athlete. The 200 Medley relay of sophomore Nora Spangler, freshman Annabelle Thompson, and juniors Elle Dameworth and Mya Hutchinson swam a new team record and state qualifying time of 1:53.70. Hutchinson also swam a personal best, state cut, and team record in the 500 Freestyle, while Dameworth posted best times, state cuts and team records in the 100 Fly and 100 Backstroke. Thompson, Hutchinson and Dameworth were joined by junior Coral Hebert to win the 400 Freestyle relay to conclude the meet. Last Thursday, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim and Dive team hosted their first home dual meet of the year, besting South Lyon East 100 to 85. The team prevailed by winning 6 events and by producing 23 season best performances. The athlete of the meet was sophomore diver Kennedy Foote for her first score over 200 points to win the diving competition. This victory moves the team to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the LVC

Oakland County Swim Meet Results: Huron Valley United, 156 points, 2nd Place!! This past Friday and Saturday, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim and Dive team traveled to Lake Orion High School for the 2023 Oakland County Championship meet. Lead by All County performances by juniors Elle Dameworth (6th-50 Free, 2nd 100 Free) and Coral Hebert (8th- 50 Free), sophomore Lola Beer (6th- Diving), and freshman Annabelle Thompson (8th- 100 Free), and anchored by a pair of runner up finishes in the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays featuring Dameworth, Hebert, Thompson and junior Mya Hutchinson, the team finished 2nd overall! This is the highest ever finish for a boys or girls swim and dive team in school district history. Additionally, the pair of relay silver medal performances match the best ever placing by a relay team in district history. The team is now ranked in the Top 10 in Division 1 on the strength of its relay performances, 200 Free relay- 3rd overall, 400 Free Relay- 4th overall, and individual results; 50 Free- 16th & 18th, 100 Free- 11th & 24th, 200 Free- 16th & 18th, and Diving- 13th. The team hosts South Lyon East this Thursday at 6pm before traveling to Calvin University for the MISCA Invitational on Friday 10/6 and Saturday 10/7

Big win for the Huron Valley United Swim & Dive team!!!! Score Huron Valley United- 101 South Lyon - 85 Overall Record (In LVC): 3-0, (2-0) The Huron Valley United Girls Swim and Dive team traveled to South Lyon East on Thursday night to take on the defending LVC champs South Lyon. The visitor's depth proved too much for the hosts, as they posted 31 personal or season best performances out of 46 swims which led to Huron Valley bringing home a 101 to 85 victory. Junior Elle Dameworth led the way with a state cut in the 200 Freestyle and a win in the 100 backstroke along with freshman Annabelle Thompson who picked up a pair of wins in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke, both in personal best times. Sophomore Lola Beer led the way on the diving boards with a personal best and new team record score of 222.85 to take 1st place, along with sophomore Leah Huntoon and freshman Mallory McArthur who also had personal best scores. Athlete of the meet was Senior Tori Adams for a 5 second personal best in the 100 Freestyle as well as achieving her goal in the 100 breaststroke. Dameworth, Thompson and Beer are joined by senior Olivia Schnieder, juniors Mya Hutchinson, Brooke Stec, Coral Hebert and Lydia Henry, and sophomores Nora Spangler, Amelie Strickfaden and Kennedy Foote as Oakland County Meet qualifiers. The divers compete Friday 9/29 while the swimmers follow it up on Saturday 9/30, both at Lake Orion High school, as the team is in the Mix for its first top 5 county meet finish in district history. The team comes home for its next Dual meet on Thursday 10/5 vs South Lyon East

Thursday, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team defeated Walled Lake Northern, 117-69, moving to 1-0 in its LVC schedule. There were fast swims up and down the pool to go along with great diving as the team produced 36 personal or season best performances! Junior Elle Dameworth added another individual state cut in the 100 Free while teaming up with Juniors Mya Hutchinson and Coral Hebert along with Freshman Annabelle Thompson to notch state qualifying marks in the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays, which currently rank 5th(!) and 11th in the state, respectively. Thompson added a personal best in the 200 Free and a 100 Free PB and State cut to her relay performances, earning herself athlete of the meet honors. The team moves to 2-0 (1-0) on the season as it looks towards a big matchup next week against defending LVC champs South Lyon @ South Lyon East high school next Thursday at 6pm. Wednesday night, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim and Dive team opened up its season with an out of conference matchup with Troy (OAA White). The team won 9 of 12 events, with numerous personal best performances en route to a 110 to 77 victory. Athletes of the meet were sophomore diver Leah Huntoon and sophomore swimmer Amelie Strickfaden for both achieving lifetime best marks and their first individual Oakland County qualifying score and times, respectively. The team moves to 1-0 (0-0) on the season with its next competition being the Huron Valley Invite with Diving Friday 9/8 @ 6pm, and Swimming Saturday 9/9 @ 12pm, both @ Milford High School.
