Boys Freshman Basketball falls to hot-shooting Walled Lake Western team, 54-32; Dylan Perinoff leads Eagles with 20 points

Eagles Lose: 32 - 54
  Thursday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team fell to an extremely hot-shooting Walled Lake Western squad, losing 54-32.    The Eagles trailed only by 6 at halftime, but the Warriors started off the 2nd half on a 7-0 run and never looked back.  Conservative estimates have Walled Lake Western shooting over 60% in the last two quarters, a sizzling percentage at any level in high school. Dylan Perinoff led the Lakeland offense by scoring a season-high 20 points on some pretty efficient shooting of his own.  Gavin Johns added 7 points. The team has two more road games next week to wrap up its season.

Eagles Win: 56 - 27
In its final home game of the season, the Boys Freshman Basketball team defeated Waterford Kettering, 56-27. The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead, scoring on their first possession as Connor Thompson hit a 3-pointer.  The offense kept scoring from then on.  Jacob Sorvari had 13 points and Austin Porcasi had 12 points to lead eight players who scored. The team has 3 road games remaining in the season: Walled Lake Western, Waterford Mott, and Walled Lake Northern.

Eagles Lose: 47 - 52
  The Boys Freshman team continued to show its ability to be competitive in every game, as it battled with Avondale until the final minutes of the game. The Eagles struggled in the first half, falling behind by 14 points.  But the 2nd half was different as Lakeland narrowed the lead to 5 points before running out of time…the final score was Avondale 52 Lakeland 47. The Johns brothers led the way for the Eagles with Gavin scoring 14 points and Landon scoring 11 points. Jacob Sorvari added 9 points.

Eagles Win: 56 - 54
On Valentine's Day, the Boys Freshman Basketball team played a game that was impossible not to love, as the Eagles defeated South Lyon on a buzzer-beating 30-foot three-point basket. The team jumped out to a blazing start, scoring often and securing a lead going into the 2nd quarter.  Despite losing a player to injury, Lakeland maintained its lead at halftime. In the second half, numerous players off the bench contributed great minutes, responding to challenge after challenge put forth by the visiting team.  South Lyon was aggressive at the end and scraped back to take the lead with 3.4 seconds left. Cue Jacob Sorvari, who after being spotted by Landon Johns on a crucial inbounds pass, covered half the court in 3 seconds and launched the game-winning shot the went through the net right after the buzzer.  The excitement and energy afterwards was electric. It was a finish that the players who worked so hard through the game deserved. Sorvari led the team with 23 points.  Austin Porcasi (11 points) and Dylan Perinoff (10 points) also reached double-digits.  Booker Ostach, Adam Ballard, Connor Thompson, and Kaden Eller provided a huge boost off the bench. The team returns to action with games Monday and Tuesday next week.

Eagles Lose: 25 - 36
  Thursday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team looked to improve upon its earlier match-up with Milford, and the Eagles did do that.  Yet, Lakeland fell short, losing to Milford, 36-25. The team fell in an early 7-0 hole that was made even worse as Wes Tobias went down with an injury early in the game. However, the Eagles gathered themselves, narrowing Milford’s lead to 18-15 at halftime.  The 3rd quarter was ugly or beautiful, depending on if you like defense, as the team’s both just point up 5 points.  In the 4th quarter, Milford hit two momentum-building three-pointers to swing the balance of the game. Dylan Perinoff and Jacob Sorvari led Lakeland with 8 points each. London Johns contributed 5 points.   The team returns to action with a home game this Tuesday at 4pm versus South Lyon.

  The FR Boys Basketball team continued to put up some strong offensive numbers, but unfortunately, their opponent, Waterford Mott, did as well, as the Eagles fell to the Corsairs, 64-51 in a game that was much closer throughout. Wes Tobias led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points. Austin Porcasi (10 pts), Gavin Johns (9 pts), Jacob Sorvari (8 pts), and Landon Johns (8 pts) were among the other leading scorers. The team hosts Milford today (Thursday, Feb 9th) in a game that starts at 5:30pm.

Eagles Lose: 60 - 63
In a rare, high-scoring affair that had to be exciting for the fans to watch, the Boys Freshman Basketball team lost to South Lyon East, 63-60.  It was a game with back-and-forth scoring, as both teams found ways to attack their opponent for easy scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, Lakeland converted on one less opportunity. Austin Porcasi was an extremely effective press-breaker, distributing a number of assists to go with his 11 points.  Jacob Sorvari (17 points), Dylan Perinoff (12 points), and Wes Tobias (11 points) were able to capitalize on many chances in the paint. The team returns to the court on Tuesday when it plays Waterford Mott for the first time this season.

Friday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team struggled to convert on some good opportunities, thus resulting in a 45-38 loss to Walled Lake Western. Gavin Johns led the Eagles with 9 points.  Weston Tobias (8 points) and Jocab Sorvari (7 points) were next in line in scoring.  The highlight of the game, though, came from Connr Thompson, who drilled a 3-pointer as time expired in the first half. The team returns to the court on Tuesday for a game versus South Lyon East.

Tuesday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team finally put things together in a close game, holding off Walled Lake Northern to win, 36-32. After starting the game in a 10-1 hole, the Eagles re-grouped, outscoring the Knights 35-22 the rest of the game. Weston Tobias had 11 points to lead the team, while Jacob Sorvari added 8 points.  Gavin Johns contributed 7 points, including the clinching lay-up (of a steal) and free throws. Lakeland improved to 4-8 on the season.  The Eagles play today against Walled Lake Western.

Eagles Lose: 24 - 43
Last Thursday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team played a solid 3 quarters; unfortunately, the games have four quarters, and the Eagles did not play well in the 4th one, losing to Our Lady of the Lakes, 43-24.   Down only 2 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, the Eagles struggled on both ends of the court, allowing the Lakers to outscore them 19-2 in the final quarter. Jacob Sorvari led Lakeland with 9 points, Austin Porcasi added 6 points, and Landon and Gavin Johns both scored 4 points.

Last Tuesday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team lost a game in the deciding minute, falling to the Lions by a score of 39-36. Jacob Sorvari led the Eagles with 14 points, while Weston Tobias and Austin Porcasi each contributed 8 points.

Friday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team had one good half, and one bad half, and those two things put together resulted in a 51-26 loss to Milford. The Eagles jumped out to a 13-8 first quarter lead, but Milford dominated from then on.  Lakeland was led by Booker Ostach's 7 points, followed by Austin Porcasi (6 points).  Landon Johns and Jacob Sorvari each chipped in with 5 points. The team returns to action on Tuesday with a game at South Lyon.

The Boys Freshman Basketball team once again found themselves in a close game til the final minutes, but lost by a score of 51-46.  Wes Tobias had 18 points and Jacob Sorvari added 13 points to lead the Eagles. The team returns to action with a game at Milford this Friday at 5:30pm in the old gym.

Wednesday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team moved to 3-3 on the season with a 31-28 victory over Holly. The Eagles jumped out to an early 10-2 lead which proved to be the difference in the game.  Jacob Sorvari had 12 points to lead Lakeland, including a huge basket to in the last 90 seconds of the game.  Wes Tobias, Booker Ostach, and Gavin Johns each added 4 points. The team will host Clarkston this Friday at 4pm.

Tuesday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team continued to be competitive in every game, but fell last night in the last minute of play, losing 37-33 to Davison. Gavin Johns had 8 points, Adam Ballard and Landon Johns had 6 points, and Logan Zell added 5 points.

The Boys Freshman Basketball team met its defensive goals in an LVC game at Waterford Kettering, defeating the Captains, 54-13. The Eagles were led on offense by Gavin Johns (10 points), Austin Porcasi (8 points), and Adam Ballard (8 points).  Ten players contributed to the scoring outburst; eleven players contributed to the excellent defense. The team will host Davison this Tuesday at 4pm.

The FR Boys Basketball played against another large school program last Monday in its home opener, and the Eagles again competed throughout the game, eventually falling by just 4 points, with Northville winning, 48-44. Nate Bronka scored 22 points despite playing only one half of the game. Weston Tobias added 7 points, and Landon Johns contributed 5 points.

Friday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team competed valiantly against a strong West Bloomfield team, falling short in the last 4 minutes, with the final score ending up as a 53-44 win for the Lakers. The Eagles were involved in a see-saw game, with each team making different scoring runs.  Nate Bronka led Lakeland with 16 points in two quarters of action.  Weston Tobias added 10 points, while Austin Porcasi and Dylan Perinoff each contributed 5 points. The Eagles return to action Monday with their home opener versus Northville at 4pm.

Eagles Win: 43 - 34
Tuesday, the Boys Freshman Basketball team opened its season with a solid 43-34 victory at Hartland. After opening up a 10-point lead at halftime, the team lost went down by 2 points late in the 3rd quarter. However, the team responded and finished the game on a 20-9 run. Dylan Perinoff came off the bench to score 12 points, while Austin Porcasi added 8 points.  Overall, the team scored 38 of its 43 points in the paint, a quality stat for the opening game.
