On Thursday, May 11th, the Girls Varsity Tennis team concluded the dual match portion of its schedule by defeating Holly, 9-1. Rachel Kesto and Anvika Gottumukala had a strong win at #6 doubles at 8-2. Seniors at Court 1 singles Mireia Garrigo and court 2 singles Alexis Guenther won in their final dual matches  Senior Hannah Isser won her final match with her partner Saanvi Jois in straight sets.  This win brings Lakeland's overall team record to 8-3.

On Tuesday, May 9th, the Girls Varsity Tennis team had another stunning victory against South Lyon East, winning 8 out of 9 courts.  Lakeland's record now stands at 7-3.  It was also Senior Night, Lakeland Tennis celebrated seniors Mireia Garrigo, Alexis Guenther, and Hannah Isser.  Mireia and Alexis played their final home match as court 1 and court 2 singles, both winning in straight sets.  Hannah and her partner, Saanvi Jois, had an incredible match at court 3 doubles winning 6-4,6-3.   Full results: Singles: No. 1 - Garrigo Mireria, White Lake Lakeland def. On Thursday, May 4th, the Girls Varsity Tennis team had a huge win, defeating rivals Milford in their annual Under the Lights Match.  The Eagles won 7 out of 9 courts, with all seven courts winning in straight sets.  Some stand out performances include the incredible win Mireia Garrigo had at 1 singles.  Mireia lost to her opponent last year in a heartbreaking 3rd set, but this season was able to secure the win in a stunning 2-set victory.  Court 3 singles Mariona Josa Escofet beat her opponent handily with a final score of 6-0, 6-0.  Hannah Issser and Saanvi Jois were an unstoppable duo pair at 3 doubles winning both sets with their amazing net game!  Lakeland now holds a record of 6-3! This past Wednesday, the Girls Varsity Tennis team suffered a tough loss against West Bloomfield High School.  The final score was 2-7.  The score does not reflect how hard the team worked, everyone fought until the end.  Court 1 Doubles pair Sunny Bikki and Ava Assante defeated their opponents in 2 sets. Lakeland is looking forward to the annual Under the Lights Milford Match next week!

Monday, the Varsity Girls Tennis team defeated Oxford in very unpleasant weather conditions. Despite a snow storm delaying the game by 20 minutes and causing poor visibility on the court, the team persevered and secured a fantastic 5-3 victory! Alexis Guenther and Bre Azzopardi, who both won in thrilling 3rd set tiebreakers on court 2 and 4 singles, respectively. Last week, the Girls Varsity Tennis team had a tough loss against Walled Lake Northern. Northern is a historically strong opponent but Lakeland fought til the end. The girls played hard and didn’t give up. Court 2 singles Alexis Guenther lost in a second set tie breaker. Court 4 singles Hannah Isser played her first singles match of the season and put up an impressive fight. We look forward to a rematch to get redemption!

Last Wednesday, the Girls Varsity Tennis team did incredible against Farmington, winning a whopping 8 out of 9 courts! Court 2 singles player Alexis Guenther gave it her all and managed to rally back after losing the first set, ultimately winning the next two sets and securing a well-deserved victory. Bre Azzopardi and Hannah Isser also dug deep fighting back from a first-set loss and clinching the win in a thrilling 3rd set tiebreaker. Tegan Ostach and Clara Krawcyzk, who played at court 5 doubles, dominated their opponents in straight sets.

The Lakeland Girls Varsity Tennis team played in its first tournament of the season battling against some of the toughest competition in the annual Brighton Quad tournament. Our talented players gave it their all and emerged with a third place finish. Our Court 1 and Court 2 singles players, Mireia Garrigo and Alexis Guenther, brought home the silver with their outstanding performances. The powerhouse doubles team of Dani Pop and Gabbi Putrus dominated their opponents in a thrilling 3rd set tie breaker to secure their own silver medal. The unstoppable Court 1 doubles team of Sunny Bikki and Ava Assante took down the favored Portage Central in straight sets and claimed the coveted gold medal. The entire team played their hearts out and left everything on the court - making this opening tournament an unforgettable triumph for Lakeland Tennis!

The Girls Varsity Tennis team played its first away match at South Lyon on 4/13 and defeated the Lions by a score of 5-4. Lakeland's #1 singles Mireia Garrigo, #2 singles Alexis Guenther, and #3 singles Saanvi Jois all won in straight sets. #1 doubles Sunny Bikki and Ava Assante also won in straight sets. #2 doubles team Gabbi Putrus and Bre Azzopardi lost their first set but came back to win the next two sets to the clench the victory in a 3rd set tiebreaker. Overall great first away match for Lakeland!

Tuesday, the Girls Varsity Tennis team lost to Walled Lake Central, 7-2. #3 Singles Ava Assante and #2 Doubles Gabbi Putrus and Saanvi Jois won in straight sets. Several players fought til the end losing in 3 set tiebreakers including #4 Singles Sunny Bikki, #1 Doubles team Bre Azzorpardi and Dani Pop, and #4 Doubles Tegan Ostach and Rachel Kesto. Lakeland defeated Hartland by a score of 6-3 with #1 singles Mireia Garrigo and #3 singles Mariona Jose Escofet winning in straight sets. Court 1 doubles Sunny Bikki and Ava Assante, court 2 doubles Dani Pop and Bre Azzopardi, court 3 doubles Gabbi Putrus and Hannah Isser also won in straight sets. Gabi Dziedzic and Alexis Petty played the longest match of the night playing 3 tie breakers, they lost in the third set but battled til the end.
