Water Polo clinics available for interested student-athletes
If you are unaware, Huron Valley student-athletes have the opportunity to compete in water polo as part of a co-op program with Walled Lake. While the Boys season has passed, the Girls season is this upcoming spring.Boys or Girls interested in participating either this upcoming spring or next fall are invited to attend several clinics taking place soon. The first one is actually this Saturday, December 7th.Check out the flyer for information and a QR code.

Recently, the Girls and Boys Cross Country teams earned Academic All-State recognition.The Girls team ranked #2 in the state, posting a 3.985 GPA, just one thousandth of a point behind the #1 team. Individual Academic All-State honors went to the following runners (to qualify, they had to be on the State Meet competition roster):Ava AlicandroAlena TiernanMaya PletzerMorgan ScallyIsabelle VerellenThe Boys team finished as the #19 team, posting a GPA of 3.716. Last Sunday, November 10th, a number of Lakeland student-athletes who are involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes volunteered their time to support the Operation Christmas Child packing event held at Thrive Church in Highland. Eagles helped to fill boxes with everyday essentials, as well as gifts for children; the boxes will be sent all around the world this holiday season.

Great news to report from the Boyne Highlands Heather Golf Course: McCoy Biagioli, Class of 2023, just won the 113th Michigan Amateur Championship, defeating Jimmy Dales (Northville) 3 & 1. Because of his victory, McCoy now receives an automatic invitation to compete in the U.S. Amateur Championship which will be played at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota, August 12-18. Previous winners of that event include some names you might recognize: Arnold Palmer, Jack Nickalus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and Bryson DeChambeau who just won his 2nd U.S. Open in dramatic fashion last weekend. Last Wednesday, May 1st, Lakeland High School and the Lakeland Athletic Department celebrated 14 student-athletes who have committed to continue their playing days at the collegiate level. During a ceremony held on campus, each honoree had the opportunity to announce their plans and share some thoughts about the experience. In addition, numerous coaches were on hand to discuss the attributes of these accomplished individuals. Congratulations to these 14 Class of 2024 student-athletes for their contributions to Lakeland Athletics, and for their success in finding an avenue to continue their careers in the future. Both the Huron Valley United Boys and Girls Swim and Dive teams matched their success in the pool this season with excellence in the classroom this school year. The Girls Swim and Dive team earned MISCA Team Academic All State with the 3rd highest team GPA in Division 1. The Boys Swim and Dive team moved up a spot from their 2nd place finish last season, earning MISCA Team Academic All State Honors with the best team GPA in Division 1! This is the first top finish for any Boys or Girls Swim and Dive team in district history. Both teams had the 4th highest GPA in the state, across all divisions, while each extending their team Academic All State streak to 4 straight seasons. At the National Level, the Girls Swim and Dive team earned NISCA National Scholar Team Gold award, while the Boys team earned the NISCA National Scholar Team Silver Award. Good news from the LHS Football Program!!! It was announced this week that the Lakeland Football Team was awarded Academic All-State Honors for the second consecutive year. This means the Eagles are one of the top FOUR teams in Division 2 across the state. Additionally, SEVEN student-athletes earned individual Academic All-State Honors (only seniors are eligible). The 2023 Football Program is selling Battle at the Big House VI Shirts for the game at the University of Michigan on August 24 at 3:30pm against South Lyon East. Shirts are $20 each and Hoodies are $35. By pre-ordering your shirt will be guaranteed. A limited amount of extra shirts will be sold on a first-come first-served basis. Shirts can be paid with cash or check made out to LHS Football. All pre orders MUST be completed by Sunday, 8/13. Huron Valley United Gymnastics team scores a season-high in three-way meet; Mckenna Herman posts a PB on beam
Girls Varsity GymnasticsSaturday, January 18th, Huron Valley United Gymnastics lost a tough one to conference rival LFLF by ..55. LFLF came out on top with a 139, HVU scored a season high 138.45 and Waterford United scored a 115. There were individual highlights of the meet including Stella Musialowski with a 9.625 on vault, 9.0 on bars, 8.9 on beam and 9.4 on floor. Lakeland senior, Mckenna Herman scored a personal best with a 9.3 on beam. Monday the team hosts Tecumseh and Cass City and next weekend they host the biggest invite in the state at Lakeland High School.

Boys Varsity Ice HockeyThe Varsity Hockey team and Walled Lake United Whitecaps met for the annual benefit game on Saturday, January 18th, to raise money for the Rainbow Connection organization that has helped many local families in their time of need. Junior Killian Voorhies represented the Eagles in a ceremonial puck drop and the sides then lined up for the real deal. At the 9:00 minute mark, Ryan Danielson showed senior savvy as he tipped the puck forward on a face-off draw to feed a hungry senior Joel Slicker for a net front tap in. Less than a minute later, Voorhies tipped in a powerplay goal off of a shot/pass from Captain Bryce Martin. The hot streak culminated 40 seconds later when Adam Trzcinski rebounded a Nate Dell shot back to the net. Like many others before it, the game was a low-scoring, defensive affair, one that the Eagles won, 28-18.Senior Alena Tiernan led Lakeland with 9 points. Aubrin Miller added 6 points incl. 4-4 free throw shooting in the final minutes. Brynn Taliercio contributed 5 points, while Claire Linen chipped in 3 points.The Eagles move to 7-3 on the season, 5-1 in the LVC. Boys Varsity SwimmingHuron Valley United 98 - 64 Pinckney The Huron Valley United Boys Swim and Dive team was back on the road Thursday, January 16th, for the 1st of 4 straight road meets, traveling to Pinckney to swim the host Pirates. The 200 Medley Relay of juniors Sam Campbell (Backstroke), Tommy Shaw (Butterfly) and Nick Marinescu (Freestyle) along with senior Brendan Marshall (Breaststroke) swam a new state qualifying time of 1:41.96. This ranks the team 9th in Oakland County this season and 10th in Division 1. Campbell made his season Debut in the 200 Freestyle (1:46.04) and 100 Butterfly (53.40), winning both events in State Qualifying times that rank 9th and 6th overall in Division 1, respectively. Boys Varsity Ice HockeyWednesday, January 15th, the Varsity Hockey corralled their rival Milford Mavericks in front of a season high crowd. The vaunted Barbers Cup was up for grabs with many Lakeland and Milford hockey alumni in the barn, including former player/coach and LHS Athletic Hall of Famer Bobby Leist.With Hunter Bennett in LHS' goal the Eagles took just 5 minutes to bury their first goal of the night. From the blue line Bryce Martin bounced a pass to Nate Dell who walked the puck to the top of the circle and snapped the puck in off of the crossbar on his way to a four point game. Less than a minute later, Ryan Danielson scored an unassisted powerplay goal, going end to end eventually wading through the Milford defenders to launch an unstoppable wrist shot over the netminder. Brock Vinter had a great day on the slopes, taking 1st place out of all three teams, but the Eagles' grouping of skiiers came after the opponents' grouping, thus resulting in two losses.Against West Bloomfield:Brock Vinter: Brock was the star performer, setting the best time of the day on the blue course with 20.07 seconds. Boys Varsity Ice HockeyFriday, January 10th, the Varsity Hockey team earned its fourth win in a row down in Royal Oak against the M-1 Griffins. With junior Owen Wynn in net, it was half a period before junior Killian Voorhies cracked the goose egg - stealing the puck at center ice and leaving Griffins in his wake to beat the goalie low blocker. The Griffs tied it up at 1-1 to end the period. The second period featured 13 Eagles shots, but only one goal. Nate Dell scored a PP goal off a Trzcinski shot to put the Eagles up. 2-1 after two. All five Eagles touched the puck in the first 14 seconds off the opening third period face off. Scanlon won the puck to Trzcinski who pushed it back to Martin. Boys Varsity Ice HockeyOn Wednesday, January 8th, the Varsity Hockey team traveled to Bloomfield Hills to take on the reigning Division 3 State Champion Cranbrook Cranes. Lakeland kicked off the scoring when junior Austin Scanlon won a D zone face off that cleared to Captain Adam Trzcinski. Trzcinski head-manned the puck to junior Nate Dell, striding through the neutral zone. Dell drifted left as he entered the zone, creating all kinds of room for a hard skating Scanlon at the net. The Eagles played with a lot of energy throughout the entire game. Unfortunately, they ended up losing 55-45. Colton Fruytier had an outstanding game, scoring 15 points. Looking ahead, the Lakeland Bowling Teams will compete against Waterford Mott at Century Bowl on Tuesday. The Varsity teams will then participate in the Oakland County Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Sophomore Madison Reed bowled the team's high game with a score of 221, and sophomore Kaitlyn Read bowled the high two-game series with a score of 392. The JV team contributed to the overall success, defeating Milford with a score of 26 to 4. Freshman Shyanne Rice bowled a personal best score of 164, and junior Dani Parker contributed a high game of 165. The first quarter of the game was well played with both teams finding success on the offensive end. The Eagles were able to score against the Knights 1-3-1 zone by moving the ball and working together. The Knights owned the offensive boards scoring on second chance opportunities. After one quarter Walled Lake Northern held a 12-10 lead with Lakeland right in the game.
