Favorite Memory:

“Sam Wimmer getting a yellow card defending me. It shows how close everyone was on the team.”

Coach’s Comment:

“Sydney chose not to play her junior year but came back her senior year with a determination like no other. She showed up to every preseason conditioning and proved to herself and her teammates she was ready for the season. She always gives 100% and will not back down when it comes to defending. She was always willing to ask questions to make sure she was doing the job expected of her on the field. Her coachability has to be one of her greatest strengths as well as her work ethic.”

Her voice was known on the field as she led the back line and pushed her teammates to do their best to win. Sam is known by her teammates and coaches to leave everything she has on the field, regardless if it's practice or a game. She is a real team player who always has her teammates’ back on and off the field.”

Will be attending Central Michigan University to major in Exercise Science

Senior Spring Athlete Feature #6: Theresa McDonald, Girls Soccer

Theresa McDonald

Athletic Career:

1 year of Varsity Soccer; 3 years of JV Soccer

Favorite Memory:

“We had an away soccer game sophomore year and it was pouring rain in increments of 10 minutes. All the girls were running around still, slipping all over the place and people were missing the ball. But I loved it because the rival team and us were all laughing and just having fun playing our sport.”

Coach’s Comment:

“Theresa was very excited about her first year of varsity level as a senior. She worked tirelessly in the preseason on her physical conditioning and ball skills. Theresa continuously asked what she could work on to get better. She would then give 100% to practice what she needed to until she could do it to the best of her ability and earn her field time. She is the biggest supporter of others which made her an amazing teammate. Theresa is always positive with a contagious smile on her face.”

Future Plans:

Go to MSU to become a packaging engineer hopefully for a good company because I love food. I also want to reduce plastic waste on the planet and I hope I can do just that :)

Senior Spring Athlete Feature #5: Emily Holland, Girls Soccer

Emily Holland

Athletic Career:

Varsity soccer (captain), Academic excellence all 4 years, student scholar all 4 years.

Favorite Memory:

“Playing a sport I've played my whole life with people that I normally wouldn’t be friends with. Being on the Lakeland soccer team allowed me to make new friends and connections with people I normally wouldn’t, and now I can’t imagine my life without them.”

Coach’s Comment:

“Emily showed she was Captain material from day one of preseason conditioning. Her hard work, leadership skills and outspoken opinion proved how much her team and this season meant to her, which is why her teammates did not hesitate to vote her as a Captain. She was determined to have a strong team her final season and go out knowing she gave it her all. She expected her teammates to do the same. Emily is a fast, versatile player who was strong with both her feet when it came to getting the ball up the field or striking. She is a player that will do whatever it takes during the game to win; her drive is unstoppable. She is a strong outside defender who we were looking forward to utilizing as an occasional left footed striker this season.”

Senior Spring Athlete Feature #3: Emma Campau, Girls Soccer

Emma Campau

Athletic Career:

Varsity Soccer (all four years), Scholar Athlete, LVC All Conference 2017-18

Favorite Memory:

“My favorite memory is making the varsity soccer team as a freshman with my former travel teammates.”

Coach’s Comment:

“Emma is a 4-year varsity player who could see the field better than most. Emma was a strong midfielder who battled some injuries throughout her high school career. Her latest injury resulted in surgery which had her show up to the first day of preseason conditioning on crutches. But like any other injury that sidelined her it did not stop her from showing up and supporting her teammates. Emma continued to come and condition doing anything she was cleared to do, determined to heal and get on the field her final season. She was good at creating scoring options by sending playable balls up to her forwards. Emma is always positive, supportive, and known to take underclassmen under her wing.”

Future Plans:

I am attending the University of Michigan to study data science.

Emily Broman

Spring Sport: Soccer. Number of Varsity Letters:4  She also earned 4 letters for Cross Country. Accolades: Academic All Conference(Freshman, Sophomore, Junior Year) and All Conference Honorable Mention(Junior Year)

Favorite Memory:

“Sophomore year Buzzer Beater. There were about 8 seconds left in the game and I got the soccer ball and served into the box where it was then put into the back of the net to win. The ball went into the net with less than a second left and we beat South Lyon 2-1. Also my favorite thing about high school soccer is playing with my best friends.”

Coach’s comment:

“Emily is a 4-year varsity player who was chosen by her teammates as a Captain after proving to them that leadership, teamwork, and team bonding were especially important to her on and off the field. From day one she encouraged all the upperclassmen to take on a big sister role to the underclassmen to help guide them through the season. Emily is a utility player who would play any position well when asked but excels defensively. Her ability to know what to do with the ball made here a reliable player anywhere on the field. She was looking forward to being our strong defensive midfielder this season. Emily’s soccer IQ and love of the game will pay off when she joins the Siena Heights Saints soccer team in the Fall. Good luck Emily, they are lucky to have you.”

Future Plans:

I plan on attending Siena Heights University to study nursing and I will also be continuing my soccer career there.

Clare is extremely fast and loves to attack the other team’s back line, especially when she can be sneaky about it or use one of her skillful moves to get around them.
