Boys Varsity Volleyball takes Silver Bracket trophy at the Yellow Jacket Invitational

Eagles Lose: -
This past Saturday, the Boys Volleyball program traveled to Avondale High School for the Yellow Jacket Invitational. In pool play, the Eagles faced a scrappy Avondale and an offensively strong Jackson Northwest, keeping the competition close but ultimately falling to both. After being placed in the Silver Bracket, the Eagles first dominated the Avondale "B" team with the final scores of 25-10 and 25-16. Finally, Lakeland was once again matched up against a tough Walled Lake Central Vikings for an even fought Silver Championship match. After running away with the first set score of 25-21, the Vikings brought the pressure and took the 2nd set at 18-25 pushing the Eagles to a decisive 3rd set. The Eagles battled and ultimately won their first tournament championship taking the 3rd decisive set 15-8!! The Eagles were led by sophomore Derek Varga with 7 aces at the service line, and 24 assists, freshman Zach Dobrin with 22 kills, senior Ryan Snody with 5 total blocks, and sophomore Joey Beck with 31 digs for the day. This is the final week of the regular season for the Boys Volleyball program finishing their conference schedule tonight at Avondale High School where they will be celebrating their Seniors, and capping off the week with a tournament Saturday at Walled Lake Central. Districts begin next Monday May 15th at Lakeland High School where the Eagles will be facing the Novi Wildcats first round!!

The Boys Volleyball program traveled to Dakota High School for their 2nd slate of conference games vs Avondale, Catholic Central, and Dakota.  First up, the Eagles faced the Avondale Yellow Jackets. After struggling to find their tempo and falling 14-25 1st set, Lakeland came out fighting 2nd and 3rd set to take both and winning the match 25-21 and 15-13! Next, Lakeland played against a scrappy Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks. After holding the lead nearly the entire 1st set, a Shamrock serving run outplayed the Eagles and fell in both sets with both scores at 20-25.  Finally, Lakeland concluded the night facing no. 5 ranked Dakota. While starting off strong, and keeping the energy consistent, the Eagles lost both sets with the final scores at 15-25, and 11-25.  The Eagles were led by freshman Zach Dobrin with 10 kills and 12 assists for the day, sophomore Jacob Valenton with 30 digs, and sophomore Derek Varga with 4 aces and 12 assists.  Next up, the boys face both Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Northern at Walled Lake Northern for an LVC Showdown, and battling to be the top team in the LVC! Games start at 5:30pm! Come out to support your Eagles!

On Saturday, April 22nd, Lakeland was excited to host its very first Boys Volleyball tournament welcoming 11 new and veteran programs from across the state! The Eagles started the day dominating the 1st set 25-13 against Walled Lake Northern, and triggered the Knights to fight back in the 2nd and 3rd, earning the win with the final scores at 23-25 and 12-15. After falling to veteran teams Lansing Christian, and a United Ann Arbor program, the Eagles were ready to start bracket play strong and swept Adrian in the 1st round with the scores of 25-17 and 25-10. Next up in the semi-finals, Lakeland was once again faced by a scrappy Walled Lake Central Vikings. The hardest fought match of the season, but ultimately falling to the eventual tournament winners with the scores of 18-25 and 15-25. Player and leader of the day was sophomore Derek Varga with 12 aces and 40 assists. The Eagles were also led by sophomore Joey Beck with 17 kills for the day, and sophomore Jacob Valenton with 45 digs.

On April 19th, the Boys Volleyball team hosted its first conference quad of the season last Wednesday welcoming Catholic Central, Dakota, and Avondale to the field house. First up, the Eagles played a veteran team in the boys league, Detroit Catholic Central, fighting point for point, and pushing them into extra points but ultimately falling 25-27, and 22-25. After facing a dominant Dakota program, who beat each team in the conference on Wednesday, the boys were ready to fight against the Avondale Yellow Jackets taking the 1st set 25-22, but lost a lot of gas in the tank and fell 19-25 in the 2nd set and 5-15 in the 3rd set. This was the most consecutive volleyball our boys played this season, and displayed hard work til the very end. The Eagles were led by sophomore Eli Yen with 10 kills total, senior Aiden Macias with 3 aces at the service line, and sophomore Joey Beck with 13 digs total for the night.

Thursday, April 6th was a night the Boys Volleyball team will never forget. Lakeland had the privilege of hosting not only the program's very FIRST game day, but it was individually every player's first volleyball game day as well! The night was about coming together as a team, learning about the game, and never giving up the battle. First up, the Eagles faced the Walled Lake Central Vikings. The first set was full of trial and error falling 14-25. Second set, the boys adjusted their game, and made a comeback but still fell short, ending the set 23-25. In the second match, the Eagles played a tough Okemos Wolves team. After falling 16-25 in the first set, the Eagles once again made the competition close and fought point for point ending the second set with a score of 23-25. The team was led by Ryan Snody and Tyler Buback in the front row, both with strong blocks and a combined 7 kills. In the back row was Jacob Valenton with a team high 6 digs, and 4 aces at the service line for the night. Next up, the Eagles have their first series of conference matches at HOME on April 19th 5:30/6:30/7:30 playing North Branch, Catholic Central, and Avondale! Mark your calendars, because April 19th will also be their final home match of the season.
