Thursday, the Lakeland Boys Ski Team raced in the Region 3 Championship at Mt. Brighton against 12 other teams. The top 3 teams and Top 10 Individuals in each Slalom and GS qualify to go to States. The Boys team had a tough day but hung in there for a 5th place finish, but did have an individual qualifier in Alec Day. The boys had a tough day in slalom and came back stronger in the afternoon GS. Top Skiers for the Boys were senior Alec Day with 7th in GS (qualifies for States), senior Tommy McCarthy 14th in GS, junior Zach Massey 16th in GS, senior Trevor Lemp with 29th in GS, sophomore Tyson Lovejoy, and junior Jacob Wagner. Alec Day will be heading to Schuss Mountain for the Division 1 State Final on Feb. 25.

Friday, the Lakeland Boys Ski Team competed in the Alpine Valley Divisional Championship against the 9 other teams in that Division (Hartland, WLC, WLW, WLN, BRM, OLSM, Milford, WB, Novi). The Boys had a very strong day and took home the 2nd place trophy for their efforts.  The first half of the day was the Slalom race. The boys struggled in slalom with 2 top skiers going down, but still finished the morning strong in 2nd place with 67 points. Top Slalom skiers for the boys were Senior Tommy McCarthy in 2nd overall, Junior Jacob Wagner in 8th, Senior Alec Day in 25th and sophomore Tyson Lovejoy coming in 34th. In the afternoon Giant Slalom Race the boys skied well and scored 65 points finishing 3rd in GS. Top Boy skiers were Jacob Wagner coming in 6th overall, Junior Zach Massey took 17th, Tommy McCarthy was right behind in 19th and Alec Day rounded out the top 4 with a 24th place finish. Coach Wiberg is so proud of our Eagle Skiers who have faced struggles, bad weather and injury this season and still came out believing in themselves and their team to ski strong at Divisionals. Tuesday, the Eagles head to Mt. Brighton for the LVC Championships!

After a series of weather delays, the Boys Varsity Ski team was able to compete Tuesday night in a marathon double header race at Alpine Valley against Milford, Orchard Lk/St. Mary's, Novi and WLN. The racing format was shortened so that we could pack 4 nights of racing into 1!!! The Lakeland Boys rocked it that night, winning all 4 of the matchups with final scores of LHS 22 MHS 51,LHS 26 OLSH 57, LHS 28 WLN 47, and LHS 22 Novi 55. Top racers for the boys were Jake Wagner who came in first overall in the total 10 team race field in GS, Zach Massey, Tommy McCarthy, Alec Day and Shane Herning!!! This completed our regular season races. The boys finished with 7 wins, 2 losses.  Next up is the Alpine Valley Divisional Championship on Friday, Feb 8 at 8:30 am

The boys split the week with a nail-biter win over Brother Rice, and and loss to a very tough Hartland! The overall score was HHS 29 and LHS 52 and BRM 37 LHS 36.  (Low score wins) Lakeland struggled with tough conditions and had many skiers go down on course. Top Lakeland boy skiers in Tuesday night's slalom race were James Wenzloff with a 1st against both teams, and first in the overall Alpine Valley Division 10 team field, Tommy McCarthy with a 3rd against both teams, Alec Day with a 5th against BRM and 9th in HHS race and Trevor Lemp rounding out our top 4 racers with a 7th against BRM and 11th against HHS. In the Wednesday night GS race Alec Day flew into 3rd place against BRM and 4th against HHS, Tommy McCarthy was 4th and 5th, Zach Massey finished 6th and 9th and Shane Herning came in 7th against BRM and 9th against HHS.
