Girls Varsity Softball splits two with South Lyon

Eagles Win: 8 - 4
On May 16th, the Varsity Softball team won one and lost one against South Lyon.
In the first game, the Eagles jumped out to a 5-2 lead and never looked back, winning 8-4. The Eagles got home runs by Nathalie Hagle and Mia McDonald. Finnegan, Ambler, Talercio, and Kaspor all had multiple hits. Mueller went the distance for the win.
In the second game, 7 errors in the field were the difference as South Lyon defeated the Eagles 10-7. Brynn Talercio had a home run and Paige Ambler collected two hits in the loss. Ambler and Mueller combined on the mound giving up 10 runs but only 3 earned.

Eagles Win: 12 - 7
Two weeks ago, the Varsity Softball team swept a double-header from Walled Lake Central, beating the Vikings 12-7 and 13-4.
In game one, the Eagles put up 13 hits in a 12-7 victory. Tierney Finnegan, Paige Ambler, Parker Ostach, Zoie Gagnon, and Maddie Borders each had 2 hits. Kellie Mueller and Paige Ambler combined on the mound for the victory.
In game two, the Eagles pounded out 14 hits in a 13-4 victory. Zoie Gagnon went 3 for 4. Ambler, Ostach, Talercio, McDonald, and Borders all collected multiple hits. Mueller went the distance for the victory.

Eagles Lose: 8 - 14
In mid-May, the Varsity Softball team struggled on defense, allowing Walled Lake Northern to put up too many runs as the Knights wound up winning both games against the Eagles.
In game one, both teams put up 2 runs in the first. Poor fielding allowed Northern to break the game open in the fourth inning, plating 7 runs. Northern didn't look back posting a 15-5 win.
In game two, Northern jumped out to an 11-2 lead going into the fourth inning. The Eagles refused to go away, putting up 6 runs in the to close the gap to 3 but that was as close as they would get in a 14-8 defeat. Mia McDonald had a 3-run home run, Parker Ostach went 4 for 4 and Tierney Finnegan went 3 for 4 to lead the Eagles. Kellie Mueller and Meredith Peterson pitched for the Eagles.

Eagles Win: 6 - 5
Earlier in May, the Varsity Softball team split a 2-game set with Walled Lake Western, beating the Warriors 6-5 in one game and losing 4-3 in the other.
In game one, Parker Ostach, Brynn Talercio, and Nathalie Hagle had doubles and Zoie Gagnon and Tierney Finnegan added singles but it wasn't enough as the Eagles dropped a close game to Walled Lake Western 4-3. Kellie Mueller and Paige Ambler combined to give up 9 hits while striking out 5.
In game two, Mia McDonald went 3 for 4 and Emily Dostal added a couple of hits to lead the Eagles to a 6-5 victory. Finnegan, Hagle, Talercio and Maddy Kaspor each had a hit. Ambler went a complete game 7 innings for the win giving up 5 runs (2 earned) and striking out 4.

Eagles Win: 4 - 3
On April 27th, the Varsity Softball team swept 2 games from Waterford Kettering, beating the Captains 4-3 and 16-0.
In Game 1, the Eagles were a little sluggish and struggled with the Kettering pitching. Down 2-1 at the end of three, the Eagles put up runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to secure a 4-3 win over the Captains. Hagle and Ostach had multiple hits in the game. Hagle had a home run in the fifth inning. Emily Dostal and Zoie Gagnon each had a hit. Mueller went 7 innings giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, and struck out 11.
In Game 2, Lakeland jumped all over Kettering for a 16-0 3-inning run-ruled win. The Eagles pounded out 15 hits. Borders, Ambler, Hagle, and Ostach each had 3 hits apiece. Madi Nelson, Dostal, and McDonald each had a hit. Ambler went the distance, allowing 0 runs and 0 hits while striking out 4.

Eagles Win: 6 - 5
In the second game of a double-header, the Varsity Softball team defeated Milford, 6-5. Milford jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning. Lakeland stormed back in the fifth inning, putting up 3 runs to tie the game. After singles by Madison Borders and Parker Ostach, Brynn Talercio hit a three-run home run to right. Milford added a run in the sixth to take the lead 5-4. Lakeland came up in the top of the seventh down by a run. Hagle led off with a double, followed by Ostach's home run to center to give Lakeland the lead. Ambler and Mueller combined for the win allowing 11 hits and 5 runs.

Eagles Win: 5 - 2
On April 25th, the Varsity Softball team traveled to Milford to take on the Mavericks. Game one was a pitcher's duel with the game tied 1-1 at the end of seven. The game went to an international tiebreaker in the eighth inning. Mia McDonald started the inning on second base. Paige Ambler singled sending McDonald to third. Nathalie Hagle came to bat with runners on first and third and blasted a three-run home run to center field. Brynn Talercio led the Eagles with two hits. Kelly Mueller went the distance on the mound, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs over 8 innings.

Eagles Lose: -
On Saturday, April 22nd, the Varsity Softball team competed in a high-caliber tournament, playing 4 quality opponents.
In Game One, the Eagles battled sleet, hail, snow, wind and a very good Saline team in 3 inning game that was called. Lakeland was down 9-8 when the game was called. Natalie Hagle had 3 hits, including two home runs, and drove in 4 to power the Eagles. Paige Ambler and Kellie Mueller pitched giving up 8 hits and 5 earned runs.
In Game Two, the Eagles ran into state-ranked Macomb Dakota. The weather wasn't the only issue for the Eagles against Dakota. The Eagles only managed to push one run across on an error by the Dakota third baseman pushing across Parker Ostach. Final Score Macomb Dakota 12 Lakeland 1.
In Game three, the Eagles took on Grand Haven from the East side of the State. It was a tight game through three innings but Grand Haven broke through with three in the fourth on to a 5-1 Victory. Tierney Finnegan drove in Lakeland's sole run. Ambler and Mueller combined to give up 8 hits and struck out 3.
Sunday morning brought more of the same weather-wise. The temperature was in the low 30's with wind chills in the 20's. The Eagles came ready to play taking on rival Howell in Game One. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, scoring one in the first, one in the second, and 4 in the third. They never looked back winning 6-0. The Eagles were led at the plate by Hagle and Ostach who each had home runs. Ostach had 3 RBIs. Mueller went the distance for the shutout, giving up 4 hits and striking out 7.
The final game of the weekend was against Tecumseh. It was a back-and-forth affair. Tecumseh jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second but the Eagles came back to tie it up in the third. The big hit in the inning was a home run by Ostach. Each team put up three in the fourth inning. Tecumseh was able to pull out the victory with three in the final frame. The Eagles got offense from Maddy Kaspor, Brynn Talercio, and Mia McDonald who all contributed 2 hits apiece. Zoe Gagnon, Madison Borders, and Hagle each had a hit. Ambler started and was relieved by Mueller.

Eagles Win: 10 - 0
Last week, the Lakeland softball team traveled to Detroit Country Day for a doubleheader. Lakeland came away with a split, losing game 1 3-0 and winning game two 10-0 in a run-ruled six-inning game.
In the opener, the Eagles had runners in scoring position in the 5th and 7th innings but couldn't get the key hit to drive in runs. Madison Borders had two hits and Paige Ambler added one. The Eagles drew 5 walks but it wasn't enough, losing 3-0. Haley Stein went 5 innings, giving up 5 hits, walking 2, and striking out 1. Kellie Mueller came on in relief, pitching the final inning and striking out 3.
In the nightcap, the Eagles got a strong pitching performance from Mueller. She went the distance, giving up 3 hits and striking out 10. The Eagles saw the Country Day's pitcher for the second time and the bats came alive. The Eagles put up 4 in the first and 4 in the sixth on the way to a 10-0 win. Parker Ostach had a home run and triple, driving in 2. Nathalie Hagle added a 3-run home run. Ambler went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and Mueller had 2 RBIs.

Eagles Lose: 0 - 6
Lakeland's home opener didn't go as planned as it ran into a very good Novi team on Friday afternoon.
In the opener, Lakeland faced off against Novi's South Carolina commit Reganne Bennett. Bennett was as advertised taking a perfect game into the sixth before Kellie Mueller's bunt single. Lakeland was able to load the bases in the seventh. Brynn Taliercio bunted and reached on an error, Nathalie Hagle walked and following a strike out, Paige Ambler had a bunt single. That is as far as the Eagles would go as Bennett struck out the final two batters. Ambler went the distance for Lakeland, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) and striking out 6. Final score Novi 6 Lakeland 0.
In game two, Haley Stein pitched for the Eagles but didn't get much support at the plate or in the field. Lakeland committed 5 errors and missed a number of opportunities at the plate to drive in runs. Lakeland put up 7 hits, Mueller and Parker Ostach each had two hits. Ambler, Emily Dostal, and Madison Borders each had one hit. Dostal drove in Lakeland's lone run. Stein went 6 innings, giving up 7 runs (2 earned) and striking out 3. Ambler came on in relief in the 7th. Final Score Novi 7 Lakeland 1.
Lakeland's next game is away versus Detroit Country Day. Date TBD (either Wednesday or Thursday).

Tuesday, the Girls Varsity Softball team spilt an important early-season double-header at South Lyon East.
Lakeland bats were quiet in the first 2 innings of game 1. South Lyon East jumped out to an 11-2 lead. Lakeland battled back with 2 runs in the third and 4 more in the fourth but fell short losing 12-7. Nathalie Hagle and Madison Borders collected 3 hits apiece. Hagle went yard for her first home run of the season. Paige Ambler got the start, going 3 innings, giving up 3 hits and 7 runs (6 earned). Kellie Mueller came on in relief, going 3 innings, giving up 4 hits and 5 runs (1 earned).
In the nightcap, it was a different story for the Lakeland offense. Lakeland jumped out to an 8-0 lead. The Eagles pounded out 12 hits, led by Hagle with 3, Brynn Talercio and Zoie Gagnon each collected 2 hits apiece. South Lyon East came back to score 4 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth thanks to some defensive lapses by the Eagle's defense. Haley Stein went the distance in the circle, giving up 10 hits and 8 runs (5 earned).
The Eagle's next game is the home opener versus Novi on Friday.

Eagles Win: 17 - 1
The Varsity Softball team, under the direction of new coach Mike Cleary, opened its season with a double-header sweep of Waterford Mott.
In game 1, Lakeland pounded out 14 hits in a 17-1 run ruled 3 inning game. Paige Ambler gets the win in the circle, going 2 innings and giving up 3 hits. Haley Stein finished up the last inning in the circle. Brynn Talercio, Nathalie Hagele, Parker Ostach and Ambler all had multiple hit games. Ostach, Ambler and Stein all went yard for the Eagles.
In the nightcap, it was more of the same. The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. The final score was 15-0 in 3 innings. Stein started and got the win, giving up 1 hit in one inning worked. Kellie Mueller pitched the final 2 innings, giving up one hit. The Eagles bats were hot again, Izzy Bedini and Ostach each had a home run and Mia McDonald added a triple.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they travel to South Lyon East.
