The 2021 - 2022 Hartland United Figure Skating Team started the season out with bang at their first competition of the season on Feb 6th, 2021 at Adrian College.  The skaters all performed individual elements which were combined to reach an overall team score.  The team is divided into 3 different levels (based on skaters tests passed) and coaches decide which skaters will compete in what elements.  Being a large team it can sometimes be challenging because so many of the skaters are talented and choosing which element is performed by which skater can be overwhelming, however the coaches try to strategize on what will put the team on top.  The team will compete at 2 more district competitions this year with the hopes they will place in the top 2 to qualify for the State Championships hosted at one of our home rinks in Brighton, MI.

RESULTS:

    A TEAM: The A team Placed 2nd in Jumps, 1st in Moves, and 5th in Spins.  Some stand out performances were by Emma Vermilion (South Lyon East) who did both the Double Double combo and Split Jump Sequence.  Caitlyn Curley (Lakeland IA) also performed two elements for the team competing in jumps with a Double flip and spins.  Paige Bolton (South Lyon), Erin Scheske (Milford), Dakota Pillera (Milford) and Mikaela Jewell (Hartland) all performed strong elements securing a 1st place finish and helping the team place 2nd overall.

        A Team Roster: Alicia Dell (Lakeland), Catelyn Curley (Lakeland IA), Norah Dell (Lakeland), Abigail Hrobsky (Lakeland), Anna Zaremba (Lakeland), Mikaela Jewell (Hartland), Erin Scheske (Milford), Dakota Pillera (Milford), Lauren Zecchin (Milford), Emma Vermillion (South Lyon East) and Paige Bolton (South Lyon)

The B team did not want to disappoint after watching the A team place 2nd.  B team started off strong with getting 1st in Jumps, 1st in Moves and 2nd in Spins.  A few notable performances was by Mikaela Jewell (Hartland)  who not only competed with A team for moves but skated in both jumps and spins for B team.  Lilly Palacios (Brighton) started with a nice clean double flip combo and the team followed the jumpers lead and executed the moves portion effortlessly.    The Moves team had strong executions of twizzles, spirals and edges.  Isabella Sutherby (Lakeland) had an impressive Bauer that went from one side of the rink to the other.  The Spins team did not want to be left out of the medals and rounded the day out with a 2nd place finish.  Ella Germann and Katerina Hudecek (Brighton) had amazing spins, along with their teammates Jessica Lask and Mikaela Jewell (Hartland).  The team is in 1st place going into the 2nd district comp in January.

         B Team Roster: Katerina Hudecek (Brighton), Tami Kociuba (Brighton), Evie Lantis (Brighton), Lilly Palacios (Brighton), Campbell Manning (Brighton), Sadie Porter (Brighton), Ainsleigh Zimmerman (Brighton), Ally Brucato (Hartland), Jessica Lask (Hartland), Hannah Riley Jeannette (Lakeland), Isabella Sutherby (Lakeland), Kara Buback (Lakeland), Kaitlyn Bessonen (Lakeland), Sami Tilt (South Lyon East),  Madison Christianson (South Lyon East) Emilia Djuric (Brighton) and Ella Germann (Brighton).

The C Team also skated strong, and this is the best C team that Hartland United has had in awhile.  The team placed 3rd in Jumps, 4th in Moves and 2nd in Spins.  Some stand out performances were by Emily Simmons (South Lyon East) who performed 5 elements for the team in this competition!  Lexi Blasko (Milford) also performed 4 elements and contributed to their overall performance.  Victora Mclaughlin (Lakeland) and Mayson Piercynski (Hartland) also performed elements for the team.  The team placed 3rd overall going into the 2nd district comp in January.  They are hoping to move into the top 2 spot so they can be in the running for the State Championships.
