The Huron Valley United Boys Swim and Dive team splashed back into the pool after winter break with their home invite this past weekend, placing 4th of the 5 attending teams. There were a number of standout performances on Saturday.
The team produced 23 personal best or season best times on the day out of 25 total swims! Juniors Tommy Shaw (22.84) and Nick Marinescu (23.51) each won a heat of the 50 Freestyle, while both doubled back second place finishes, personal bests, and county qualifying times in the 500 Freestyle (5:11.38) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.29).
Shaw and Marinescu were joined by senior Brendan Marshall and freshman Daniel Beach to take 2nd place in the aforementioned 200 Freestyle relay. Beach knocked out some other noteworthy swims on the day, swimming a 25 second personal best in the 200 Freestyle (2:25.06) and 17 seconds in the 100 Backstroke (1:17.43).
In the 400 Free relay, Marshall and Shaw were joined by junior Ralph Walter and freshman Thomas Kiebel with another runner up finish, this time in the 400 Free relay. Walter swam a personal best in the 200 Individual Medley (2:50.35) and season best in the 500 Freestyle (6:28.91). Kiebel posted personal bests in the 200 IM (2:21.89) as well as the 100 Breaststroke (1:12.09).
Marshall produced a pair of wins in the 200 Freestyle (1:46.77) and 100 Butterfly (53.85). Marshall also set a new meet record in the 50 Freestyle, leading off the 200 Freestyle relay in 22.27 seconds. Those three swims along with a 47.83 lead off leg of the 400 Freestyle relay, were all Division 1 state qualifying times, and rank 7th (100 Free) 11th (100 Fly) and 12th (200 Free, 50 Free) in Division 1 so far this season. For his efforts, Brendan was awarded the Athlete of the meet by the coaches of the participating teams.
The team begins LVC competition with a double dual meet @ Walled Lake Northern vs the host knights along with Waterford United on 1/23.
