Alex Broadwater finishes 4th at MHSAA Diving finals; HVU Boys Swim & Dive takes 27 out of 45 teams

Game Date
Mar 11, 2023

Last Friday and Saturday, the Huron Valley United Boys Swim and Dive team traveled to Calvin University to compete in the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals.

Senior Mason Brow kicked off the teams events with a personal best time of 22.20 in the 50 Freestyle to place 23rd overall.

Sophomore Brendan Marshall also swam a personal best time of 54.08 to TIE for 16th place in the 100 Butterfly, requiring a tie breaking swim-off at the end of the prelim session. Marshall swam even faster in the head to head race, but his time of 53.71 was just a few hundredths behind his competitor placing him 17th overall at the meet.

Marshall and Brow were joined by freshman Layton Armstrong and Tommy Shaw on the 400 Freestyle Relay Team, where the quartet dropped a second off their seed time to move up from 26th to 19th Place.

IA West Senior Alex Broadwater was the team's lone finalist, competing in the 1 meter diving competition. After pacing the field in 1st place through 3 rounds of the 11 round competition, he faced a setback in the 4th round with his first failed dive of the season, dropping him all the way from 1st to 16th. Not to be deterred, Broadwater showed why he is among the elite divers in Michigan, climbing up all the way from 16th place to finish 4th overall earning all state honors. He will continue his diving career at the University of Michigan next fall.

The team scored 15 points and placed 27th out of the 45 teams with qualifying athletes
