Game Date
Feb 5, 2022

This past Friday and Saturday, the Huron Valley United Boys Swim and Dive team traveled to Lake Orion high school for the 2022 Oakland County Championship meet. Going in to the meet with a program record 11 individual qualifiers, the team made good on their entries by placing 12th overall with 88 points. This is the most points and highest place the team has ever finished at the Oakland County Championships.

On Friday night, Divers Hunter Houser and Alex Broadwater got the meet started, placing 18th and 15th, respectively. After picking up points in diving the stage was set for the swimmers to take over on Saturday. The meet kicked off with the medley relay team of Brendan Marshall, Lorenzo Giovanelli, Ethan Buckner and Kyle Scheck dropping 8 seconds off their entry time and moving up 3 spots to take 23rd place.

Up next, Marshall was joined by Hassan Ezzeddine in the 200 Freestyle where both athletes dropped 2 seconds off of their times. In the final heat of the event, Fletcher Smith touched the wall first by four hundredths of a second to capture the first individual county championship in program history with a team record time of 1:42.85. He returned to the pool as the county runner up in the 100 Fly, again in a team record time of 50.35.

Mason Brow carried this momentum into the 50 Freestyle, where he dropped over half a second to move up 9 places to 15th overall and score team points. He returned to the pool in the 100 Freestyle with Ezzeddine where both athletes dropped almost 1 second to place 32nd and 19th, respectively.

Lorenzo Giovanelli picked up right where he left off in the medley by dropping 3 seconds to place 20th overall in the 100 Breaststroke.

The record setting was not done for the day, with identical 200 and 400 Freestyle relay teams of Smith, Brow, Marshall and Ezzeddine taking home a pair of 7th place finishes, earning All-County Honors, on their way to team records in both events. To cap it all off, the quartet's time of 3:21.98 in the longer relay qualifies them for the MHSAA Division 1 State Championships and is currently the 13th fastest time in the state.
