Boys Varsity Hockey defeats the M-1 Griffins, 5-2; Owen Wynn earns the "win" in net for the Eagles

Friday, January 10th, the Varsity Hockey team earned its fourth win in a row down in Royal Oak against the M-1 Griffins. With junior Owen Wynn in net, it was half a period before junior Killian Voorhies cracked the goose egg - stealing the puck at center ice and leaving Griffins in his wake to beat the goalie low blocker. The Griffs tied it up at 1-1 to end the period.
The second period featured 13 Eagles shots, but only one goal. Nate Dell scored a PP goal off a Trzcinski shot to put the Eagles up. 2-1 after two.
All five Eagles touched the puck in the first 14 seconds off the opening third period face off. Scanlon won the puck to Trzcinski who pushed it back to Martin. Martin went to his D partner Vince Modica, who tapped it up to Scanlon on the boards. Scanlon, ever patient, took the puck deep into the M-1 zone to find Dell in the slot, who buried what would end up being the game winner. The Eagles scored two more goals: Voorhies from Carter Sutton on a nifty defensive steal and then Sutton scored the final goal (Ryan Danielson). 5-2 Eagles Final.
Coach Ronayne: "We were sluggish in the first half of the game but found our energy in time to put the game away. Nice to see the scoring spread out and for KV (Voorhies) to get a couple."
Cross town rival Milford comes to the epic Lakeland Ice Arena on Wednesday 15th. Puck hits the ice at 7:20 PM.
