Varsity Hockey falls behind early, loses to Lakes Area United, 5-3

On Saturday, November 23rd, the Varsity Hockey team suffered its first loss of the season against a solid Lakes Area United team (Kettering, Mott and West Bloomfield athletes). LA took advantage of Eagles defensive lapses to put up three goals in the first period on sophomore goalie Hunter Bennett. 0-3 Lakes after one.
Senior Jacob Grant put the Eagles on the board in the second period with a one-time clapper from the high slot (assist to Killian Voorhies). Lakes Area would answer after Lakeland hit another defensive snooze button. 1-4 Lakes after two.
In the third, the Eagles mustered a single tally thanks to Captain Carter Sutton's neutral zone steal and slash to the net. Lakes would score a fifth goal for a yawning 5-3 win.
Coach Ronayne: "We didn't show up in the first period. Plain and simple as that. And we can't afford to take one shift off vs. Lakes let alone an entire period. A team loss. Now we regroup and move on."
Move on indeed! The Eagles welcome 2023-24 semi-final opponent Trenton on Saturday 11/30. Puck drop at 8 pm at the festive Lakeland Ice Arena.
