On Friday, November 15th, the Varsity Hockey team's annual season opener  vs. Big Rapids kicked off five hours due north of White Lake at the Soo Showcase. Early in the first period, junior Nate Dell wasted no time netting the first goal of the season with a blinding snap shot from the blue line. Senior Captain Bryce Martin found junior Austin Scanlon who put the Eagles up by 2 in what would prove to be the game winner. Zane 'Big Rig' Austin netted his first goal as an Eagle hammering in a buzzer beater with less than a second on the clock (assists Dell, Carter Sutton). 3-0 Eagles after one.

In the second period, Dell nabbed his second goal (Martin, Joel Slicker) for a 3-point game. Sutton (Killian Voorhies, Adam Trzcinski) and Trzcinski (Gavin Hewitt, Voorhies) capped off the scoring for the night. Ben Johnson got the start in goal giving up one goal on 11 shots. Wynn batted clean-up in the second half stopping all 7 shots faced. Final score Eagles 6 Cardinals 1.

Coach Ronayne on the win: "It's always nice to get in hard hitting and hard skating start after three weeks of practice. The veterans set the tone and the entire team contributed. I'm happy with the new additions as well as the progress of the returners. Good start."
