On Wednesday, the Hockey team continued its pre-regional tune up march with a 5-2 home win over Utica Eisenhower.
Eisenhower drew first blood scoring a powerplay goal early in the first period. 0-1 after one.
The home Eagles spent the intermission in deep contemplation and delivered a barrage of goals in the second period. Captain Tim Hinkle kicked off the scoring when he drove the net and knocked in an Austin Scanlon rebound (Brennan Grant). A few minutes later, sophomore Nate Dell dug himself into the crease while sophomore Gavin Hewitt calmly waited for Dell to get position. Hewitt snapped a shot/pass and Dell directed into in (Carter Sutton). Sophomore Lucas Kintz scored LHS's third goal from about the same spot as Hinkle's. Junior Joel Slicker won a clean draw back to junior Tyler Buback. Buback whistled a high shot off the glass that Kintz gathered and placed in the top shelf, putting Lakeland up by two. For Lakeland's fourth goal Hewitt broke on a bobbled puck just under the blue line and clapped it through traffic. 4-1 after two.
Both teams scored a goal in the third period as Lakeland's Dell scored his second of the game to ice the win. Paul Baker stopped 22 of 24 shots for the win. 5-2 final.
Coach Ronayne: "Huge second period drove the win. After a slow start we figured out that goals are scored at the net so they went there and delivered. Nate Dell had a big game and is really heating up at the right time of the season."
