The Varsity Hockey team went 1-1 at the MIHL Trenton Showcase this past weekend as they prepare for the upcoming regional playoffs.

Lakeland first met the Saginaw Heritage Hawks on Thursday night.  In spite of taking five penalties in a tightly called contest Lakeland found themselves with a 1-0 lead late in the first.   Junior Ryan Danielson won the puck in the Hawks' zone and dropped the puck to sophomore Gavin Hewitt.  As Hewitt snapped the puck on net Danielson circled back and flicked the rebound into the net.   But the Hawks answered on the power play with just three seconds on the clock.  1-1 after one.

Coach Ronayne: "We needed to adjust our game to the manner in which it was officiated.   And I'm proud to say the boys responded.  They focused on what they could control and reigned in the penalties."

But Saginaw had no such intention.  Thus Captain Timmy Hinkle made them pay blasting a powerplay shot from the point (Bryce Martin, Brennan Grant).  Junior Adan Tryzcinski had to dodge the shot as he was already planted in front of the Hawks crease and the goalie had no time to react.  2-1 after two.

In the third the Eagles bought some insurance when Austin Scanlon received a pass from Hinkle and snapped a quick shot on target.  Again it was Tryzcinski making himself comfortable in front of the Hawks tender that helped the Scanlon shot get home.  Paul Baker was solid in net stopping 23 of 24 shots on net.  3-1 final Eagles.
