HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL: 3
The Varsity Hockey team travelled to Howell hoping to play the role of spoiler on the Highlanders' senior night. But it was not to be thanks in no small part to a pair of senior Howell goaltenders. In spite of facing 43 total Eagles' shots-on-net starter Ean Badgett and backup Ethan Satterly played two flawless periods for a rare combined shutout. Howell won, 3-0.
Coach Ronayne: "Howell has one of the toughest schedules in high school hockey and their goaltenders lead the state in save percentage. I think they are both north of .950 which is almost unreal given the opponents they face. We just couldn't get the puck behind them."
Lakeland goalie Jason Slicker was stingy in his own net, holding Howell High to one goal into the third period. But Howell would net two more goals on 30 shots overall for the W.
Coach McElwee on the Howell atmosphere: "In my opinion Howell home games are the definitive high school experience. The rink is a small barn and the stands are packed and loud. The team is well coached. The Howell fans know and appreciate good hockey. Every Eagle should get to play at least one game out here."
Alas, Regional tune-ups are over. Lakeland will get tropical vs the winner of Davison vs Fenton-Linden on Wednesday at the Dort Center in Flint. Tickets available online only. https://gofan.co/app/school/MI4197
