LVC champion Lakeland Eagles had their perfect conference win streak snapped in a back and forth 7-6 thriller by in-district rival Milford on Saturday night.  

The Eagles went up 2-0 for most of the first period with goals from Kyle Sierota (Matthew Zaremba) and Luke Weinberger (Cam Slicker, Owen Arnold).  But the Mavericks, led by captain Austin Combs, would have none of it scoring two lightning quick goals in the final minute of the period. 

The second period had Lakeland putting in three to Milford's one.  Jacob Lewis collected an outlet pass from Sophomore Amy Palaian, marched it to the Milford zone and zipped a shot past goalie Hunter Langley.   Sophomore sensation Luke Weinberger got his 2nd and 3rd of the night with assists credited to Nick Hrobsky, Slicker and Arnold.   But Milford came back with yet another last minute goal to pull within two after two. 

The third period belonged to the Mavericks logging four goals in total.  Combs buried what would be the game winner from the high right circle on a Mav powerplay.   Senior Will Petersmark scored the lone LHS goal.   

Coach Ronayne on the loss: "All credit to the Mavs.  They had plenty to play for - their coach (Dennis Gagnon), the Barbers Cup, second place in the LVC and revenge for our win at their house.  And their effort showed it.   Combs was unstoppable.  I think he got three goals and he could have had three more.   Our guys are disappointed with the loss of course but we'll figure out where we went off the rails and get ready for regionals."
