The Varsity Hockey team clinched its first LVC championship with a season sweep of the South Lyon East and South Lyon High Schools' unified hockey team on Wednesday night.  Lakeland (13-1-1) came into the night undefeated in conference play needing just one win in their two final league games to secure the title.   And they got it.  Sophomore goalie Jason Slicker led the way making 35 saves on 36 SLU shots.  The Eagles scored a goal in each period for a final 3-1 tally.

Coach Tim Ronayne on the Eagles' goaltending "Jason was the difference tonight.  He was the difference."

Junior Fisher Christian redirected a filthy backhand pass from line mate Caden Pierson to put LHS up by one early in the first.   Kyle Sierota was credited with an assist after winning the puck to Pierson on an aggressive forecheck.

The lone goal of the second period featured Senior Matthew Zaremba bouncing a knuckle-puck in from outside the blue line to put Lakeland up by two - serving up what would be a nail biting third period.

South Lyon got on board thanks to a powerplay goal just two minutes into the third period.   Lakeland stood firm and locked down United's top lines the rest of the way.  Sierota sealed the W with an unselfish shot block resulting in a walk-in breakaway to freeze the Unified goalie with a backhand forehand move, buying much needed insurance for the Eagles.

Coach Ronayne reflected on the night "Truly a team win.  Everyone contributed and the seniors led the way.  Hrobsky did everything we asked of him and more tonight.  Our D was solid. I think coach Matt said Arnie and Z logged 35+ minutes each.  And Cam just did his what he's been doing all season - controlling puck possession.

Lakeland takes on Romeo this Friday at the LIA before meeting Milford on Saturday for their final regular season match up.
