Friday night, the Varsity Hockey team kicked off a "3 games in 21 hours" stretch with a grudge match versus LVC champs South Lyon United.  The high scoring game ended in Lakeland's favor with a final 7-5 score (LHS empty netter).   Seven different Eagles scored during the game.

Lakeland Coach Tim Ronayne had this to say of the game: "We're happy to come out of there with a team win.  I can't recall the last time we won a game in which we were outshot.  Credit to our D corps and especially goalie Jason Slicker for giving us a chance to win.   We've got to find an answer for their forecheck and #10 Skameira when we meet again.  I think he scored 3 on us tonight.  Quite a talent."

The Eagles withstood a ferocious South Lyon attack in the first period to find themselves up 3-2 after one period despite being outshot 14-6.   Spencer Pickett netted the first goal with assists from Jacob Lewis and Luke Weinberger.  Pickett assisted on the next tally when he found junior Fisher Christian in the slot who flashed a quick wrister past the Unified goalie.  Matthew Zaremba scored late in the period with assists going to Cam Slicker and senior Owen Arnold.

The second stanza had both teams dropping in two buckets to keep the game tight at 5-4.  Team leading Luke Weinberger got on the board (assisted by Nick Hrobsky and Cael Slating).  Later Will Petersmark got his first goal of the season from Arnold and Slicker.

Junior Jacob Lewis put the Eagles up by two six minutes into the third period with a surgical wrist shot from the left circle.  But as expected the SLU skaters high octane offense brought the game back to a one goal differential with just under four minutes to play.  Hrobsky finally broke through the Unified onslaught and found the empty net as he collected Arnold's clearing assist (his fourth of the night) to seal the victory.
