Monday, February 24th, the Girls Junior Varsity team traveled to Hartland for another tough non-conference game falling 35-45.  The first quarter started out as a defensive battle with both teams tied 1-1 --after minutes.  Hartland then went on a 7-0 run over 3 minutes until Alyssa Goldman’s 3-point play cut the lead to 8-4.  Hartland was able to extend their lead to 10-6 to end the first quarter.  The second quarter remained tight.  Lakeland was very patient in the half court having several possessions that lasted almost a minute.  Hartland remained strong though never letting Lakeland overtake the lead.  Lakeland pulled within 2 at the half by attempting 8 free-throws in the last minute of the half 20-22.  Both teams came out in the second half concentrating on the defensive end with Lakeland being able to tie the game up 23-23 at the 4:36 mark on a three-point shot from Alyssa Goldman.  Hartland responded with 4 quick points, but Lakeland would not go away with Gracie Grzymkowski pulling the Eagles within 1 point with a put back with 2:00 left in the quarter.  The game remained tight with Hartland clinging to a 3-point lead going into the fourth quarter 31-28.  The fourth quarter started out tight, but Hartland was able to pull away using a 2-3 zone defense that frustrated Lakeland.  Overall, a very good game where Hartland defeated Lakeland 45-35.

Scoring Leaders:  Alyssa Goldman led with 18 points, Jaylyn Rhines and Gracie Grzymkowski (4), Morgan Ross (3), Morgan Dial, Matilda Herron and Maddie Miles (2).

Both teams combined for over 50 FT attempted:  (Lakeland: 15/24, 63%.     Hartland: 18/32, 58%)

Lakeland falls to 14-6, 9-4 in the conference.
