Thursday, February 6th, the Girls Junior Varsity Basketball team opened up the Hall of Fame Showcase by defeating Milford, 28-12.. The Eagles started with great energy pressuring Milford with full court defense leading to turnovers and transition scoring opportunities. Alyssa Goldman was the main recipient of these opportunities scoring 6 of her game high 10 points in the quarter. Morgan Dial and Sammy McDonald also contributed to the first quarter scoring allowing Lakeland to open a 9-2 lead at the end of the quarter. Milford played strong in the second quarter handling the Lakeland pressure and playing great half court defense. The Mavericks were able to win the quarter outscoring the Eagles 3-2 cutting into Lakeland’s halftime lead 11-5. The Eagles came out strong in the third quarter having their best scoring third quarter of the year (11 points). Full court man pressure and aggressive drives to the basket allowed Lakeland to shoot 14 free throws in the quarter. Six different Eagles scored in the quarter expanding their lead to 22-9. The fourth quarter was competitive. Milford was able to go to the free throw line 11 times while Lakeland was able to get scoring from Close Hrzich and Morgan Ross. The Lakeland team kept their energy throughout the entire game earning the 28-12 win sweeping the season series 2-0.
