Girls Junior Varsity Basketball finishes strong in 32-26 win against Birmingham Seaholm

Tuesday, December 10th, the Girls Junior Varsity Basketball team outlasted a good Birmingham Seaholm squad 32-26 to earn their first road win of the season. Both teams came out strong on the defensive end in the first quarter, each allowing only one basket with Seaholm leading 3-2. The second quarter opened up slightly offensively with Alyssa Goldman scoring 6 of her team high 10 points. Neither team was able to pull away with the score tied at 10 going into halftime. Out of the break the Maples came out strong taking a 20-15 lead at the 4:21 mark of the third quarter. Lakeland responded tying it up with a Jaylen Rhines three and a Melina Wing layup with 3:11 left. After being down 2 going into the fourth quarter the Eagles tied it up again 1:28 in on an athletic layup from Gracie Grzymkowski on a very nice feed from Peyton Foote. Peyton follow that up with a 15-foot jumper off the glass from the right wing 38 seconds later for her first high school points giving Lakeland a 24-22 lead. The Maples responded with 4 straight points to take their final lead at the 4:50 mark. Alyssa Goldman tied the game with a left-handed drive and layup knotting the score at 26 halfway through the quarter. The Eagles took the lead for good with a fastbreak layup by Melina Wing assisted by Morgan Dial with 2:18 remaining. Two more left-handed fastbreak layups by Sammy McDonald both assisted by Malena Wing in the final minute sealed the win for Lakeland. Congratulations to the ladies for a well fought win.
