Friday, The Girls Junior Varsity Basketball team started conference play with a 31-21 win over Walled Lake Central.  The Eagles came out strong defensively limiting the Vikings to two field goals and one free throw in the first half.  After a slow offensive first quarter for Lakeland the Eagles exploded for 12 points in the second quarter - scoring in double digits for the first time this season.  After halftime the Eagles continued to play hard on both ends of the court expanding their lead to 19 early in the fourth quarter.  The Vikings continued to play hard and were able to close the gap to 8 with two minutes remaining.  Lakeland weathered the push by the Vikings to earn a ten-point win.   Sophomore Morgan Dial and Freshman Sammy McDonald led the scoring with 8 and 7 points respectively.   Other Lakeland scorers; Alyssa Goldman (5), Jaylyn Rhines (4), Melina Wing (2), Melanie Hudspeth (2), Gracie Grzymkowski (2), Cloe Hrzich (1).   Congratulations to Cloe and Sammy on their first high school points scored.  Free throws again played a big part in this game.  ( Lakeland 13/21, 62%.       WLC  4/16,  25%)
