This past Friday, the Girls JV Basketball team kicked off the showcase by defeating Milford for the third time this season 31-26.
Lakeland started the game strong playing well on both ends of the court holding Milford to only 2 points in route to a ten-point lead at the end of the first quarter (12-2). Like the past two games of the season – nothing ends up being easy. Milford was able to find the distance, but Lakeland was able to keep pace with both teams scoring 7 points in the quarter (all of the Eagles points were from the free throw line) maintaining a 10-point halftime lead (19-9). The third quarter was almost a disaster for the home team with Milford going on a 12-4 run including a three-pointer at the buzzer. Sophomore Haley Aberlich steadied the Eagles on the defensive end enough to keep the lead going into the final quarter (23-21). Just like the previous two meetings – the fourth quarter remained tight with key free throws by Claire Linen being the difference allowing the Eagles to prevail with a 5-point win.
Seven Eagles scored, being led by Claire Linen’s 9 points. Anna Linen (7), Alyssa Goldman (6), Geneva Willis (3), Haley Aberlich (3), Morgan Dial (2) and Aly Dahm (1) rounded out the scoring. Key Stat – Free throws played a huge part in the game. Lakeland shot 17/28 (61%) while Milford shot 4/13 (31%)
Lakeland improves to 13-3. 10-0 in conference
Big week coming up with two good games at home: 2/13 vs South Lyon and 2/15 vs Cass Tech
