Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team finishes 11th in Division I State Meet

This Friday and Saturday (Nov. 22-23), the Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team competed in the Division I MHSAA State Meet.
The team squared up against a very competitive field in which the spread of points from 3rd to 10th was the closest it has ever been HVU fought through a few setbacks to produce a strong 11th place finish scoring 93 points.
The 200 Medley Relay team of junior Nora Spangler, sophomore Annabelle Thompson, junior Amelie Strickfaden, and senior Coral Hebert set a new team record of 1:51.67 in prelims, advancing to finals and earning a 15th place medal.
In the 200 Freestyle, senior Elle Dameworth placed 4th earning All State honors in a new team record time of 1:52.86. Senior Mya Hutchinson snagged a 14th place finish in the consolation final to add to the team’s point total.
The 50 Freestyle saw Hebert build off of her relay performance by making her first individual state final, swimming a new best time of 24.70 before placing 15th in finals. Thompson also recorded a best time placing 22nd overall in 24.93.
In Diving, junior Lola Beer placed 12th with a score of 343.20 while junior Kennedy Foote took 32nd with a prelims score of 125.80 in the 11-Dive event.
Dameworth was back in action in the 100 Fly again earning All-State honors with an 8th place finish in 57.56.
In the 100 Freestyle, the team saw a flurry of action, with Thompson placing 16th in prelims before moving up to 14th in finals with a time of 54.33. Right behind her was freshman Maddy Kalinowski who placed 17th with a PB of 54.51. Hebert took 23rd in 55.15 while senior Brooke Stec placed 24th in 55.56.
The 500 Freestyle saw Hutchinson back in action, placing 30th overall in 5:20.61.
For the 200 Freestyle Relay- Dameworth, Kalinowski, Stec and Hebert set a new team record in prelims of 1:38.02 before earning All-State Honors with an 8th place finish on Saturday in 1:38.56.
The final event of the day in the 400 Freestyle relay, where the team of Dameworth, Kalinwoski, Stec and Thompson again set a team record of 3:34.18 in prelims before taking 5th in finals in 3:33.94, improving on their team record again while earning another set of All-State Medals on Saturday.
Overall the team had the most individual finals medalists (5) in district history and is the first team to ever have all 3 relay teams qualify for Saturday's championship session.
The team concludes the season having gone 9-0 in dual meets, extending a winning streak that started in 2022 to 19 meets, winning their second consecutive LVC championship and 3rd in 4 years. The team again brought home a 2nd place trophy at the Oakland County meet while setting a record with 13 individual qualifiers and 11 All-County Athletes. 10 Athletes qualified for the State Finals, 9 of them earned medals, and 5 were All-State Athletes. Team records were set in 11 of 12 events as the senior class pushed the limits of what was possible, finishing the season as the winningest class in district history with a 29 and 2 record over the last 4 years.
