This past Friday and Saturday, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team traveled to Waterford Kettering for the 2024 LVC Championship meet. You don't have to be perfect to win, just the best on the day, and the team found a way to be the best on the day, like they had been the prior 90 days of the season bringing home the win in a meet that came down to the final event of the day.

Senior Captain Mya Hutchinson topped the podium in the 200 Freestyle (1:56.04) and then defended her 2023 title in the 500 Freestyle, touching first in 5:13.59. Junior Diver Lola Beer placed first with a new team record score of 385.50, leading a 1-2-3 sweep as fellow juniors Kennedy Foote and Leah Huntoon took home silver and bronze in the event. Senior Captain Elle Dameworth added to her title total with a win and new team record in the 200 IM (2:08.85) and a 1st place finish in the 100 Fly (57.16). Dameworth was joined by senior Captain Brooke Stec, freshman Maddy Kalinowski and senior Coral Hebert to touch first in the 200 Freestyle relay while the former three were joined by Hutchinson to clinch the championship by winning the 400 Freestyle relay.

Dameworth set a new HVU Team and LVC Meet record in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.97 leading off the 400 Freestyle relay in prelims and for her efforts in not just this season, but throughout her career as a 16x All LVC athlete, 7x LVC Champion, 3x LVC Team champion and aforementioned LVC record holder, she was recognized as the athlete of the meet.

Up Next, junior Divers Kennedy Foote and Leah Huntoon along with sophomore Mallory McArthur join Beer for the Regional Diving competition at Novi High school on Thursday 11/14, where they will compete to qualify for the state finals.

They will be looking to join the following swimmers at the Holland Aquatic Center on 11/22 and 11/23- Elle Dameworth, Mya Hutchinson, Coral Hebert, Brooke Stec, Nora Spangler, Amelie Strickfaden, Annabelle Thompson, Maddy Kalinowski and Charlotte Smith.
