For the second consecutive season, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim and Dive team traveled to Lake Orion High School for the Oakland County championships and came home with a Runner-Up trophy. While the 2023 team slowly crept up the standings throughout the day, the 2024 team scored big and scored early, only being bested by the eventual winning team, 20+time champion Farmington Hills Mercy.

In Friday Night's Diving Competition, the junior Trio of Lola Beer (2nd), Kennedy Foote (3rd), and Leah Huntoon (5th) all moved up from the seed position to earn All County Honors and put the team in first place heading into Saturday's swimming session. Beer improved on her 6th place finish as a sophomore, while Foote made a big jump from 31st last year and Huntoon made a medal worthy impact despite not qualifying for the county meet in the prior season.

On Saturday, the meet started with a season best time from the Medley Relay Team of junior Nora Spangler, sophomore Annabelle Thompson, junior Amelie Strickfaden, and senior Coral Hebert who earned a medal placing 8th overall. Senior Mya Hutchinson placed 3rd in the 200 Freestyle while Thompson placed 9th. In the 50 Freestyle, Senior Elle Dameworth took home a runner up finish in 23.90, the fastest time in district history, while Hebert also made the podium in 8th. Freshman Maddy Kalinowski and senior Brooke Stec also scored in 14th and 16th places, respectively. In the 100 Freestyle, Dameworth took home a 3rd place medal in a season best and team record time, while Thompson also earned all county honors in 5th. Kalinowski and Hebert both scored in 12th and 16th places, respectively. Hutchinson moved up one spot in the longer distance race of the day, placing 2nd in the 500 Freestyle in a new personal best and team record time. Dameworth, Stec, Hutchinson and Hebert teamed up for a 2nd place finish in the 200 Freestyle relay and a 3rd place finish in the 400 Freestyle relay to finish out the meet and complete the team's scoring efforts. Senior Lydia Henry swam a season best in the 50 Free (33rd) and personal best in the 100 Free (38th), freshman Charlotte Smith had her best performance in the 100 Backstroke (35th), Strickfaden swam a lifetime best in the 100 Fly (18th) and improved her standing on the season in the 500 free (19th), while Spangler posted PRs in the 100 Fly (31st) and 100 Backstroke (17th)

Overall the team qualified 13 individual athletes, earned 9 Individual All-County Honors, was All-County in all 3 Relays, and took home 4 runner up finishes- All of which are the most in the 20-year history of Swimming and Diving in the district.

Up next the team will host an undefeated South Lyon team on Thursday 10/10 to break the tie atop the conference standings before traveling to Eastern Michigan University on Friday and Saturday to compete in the MISCA Invitational.
