Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team finishes 2nd in LVC Championship meet

Last Friday and Saturday, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim and Dive team competed in the Lakes Valley Conference championship meet @ South Lyon East High School, taking second place overall behind a talented South Lyon team. The team finished with an LVC leading 11 ALL CONFERENCE performances, to go with another 9 Honorable Mention honors.

Sophomore Elle Dameworth led the way with runner up finishes in the 200 and 100 Freestyles, both in Team record and state ranking times, while also swimming legs on the 3rd place 200 Freestyle Relay and silver medal winning 400 Freestyle Relay. Fellow Sophomore Mya Hutchinson joined her on the latter relay while collecting a pair of all conference honors herself in the 200 and 500 Freestyles. The Freshman diver duo of Lola Beer and Kennedy Foote also brought in medals with their 3rd and 4th place respective finishes in the 11 Dive competition. Both Divers will compete to qualify for the State Finals this Thursday, 11/10 @ Novi High School. Senior Mallory Armstrong snatched an individual medal in the 100 Free to go with her 200/400 Free relay swims, contributing to both relays' season best and state ranking times. Junior Olivia Schneider brought home a pair of Medals in the 100 Fly and 200 Medley Relay, where she was joined by Freshman Nora Spangler, Sophomore Emina Grebovic, and Freshman Amelie Strickfaden. Freshman Kat Wieas produced a personal best to medal in the 500 Free. 

Athletes of the meet for HVU were Senior Mila Koivula for 3 personal bests in the 200, 100 and 50 Freestyles with the final performance breaking the 30 second barrier for the first time in her career. Sophomore Coral Hebert took bronze in the 50 Free along with her medal anchoring the 200 Free relay to a season best time while overcoming both Illness and Injury. Junior Karolina Spiewak put the team on her back to close out the meet, swimming 3 of the final 4 events and contributing to both freestyle relays' improved performances as well as swimming a team record in the 100 Breaststroke.

The team finishes the regular season 2nd overall in the LVC (2nd Dual Meets, 2nd Championship) with a 6-1 Dual meet record. The team is ranked 15th in the Division 1 SwimCloud team rankings, its highest ranking to date.

After this week's Regional Diving Competition for Beer and Foote, Dameworth, Hebert, Hutchinson, Armstrong, Spiewak, and Sophomore Brooke Stec along with any qualifying Divers will compete in the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals @ Oakland University with Prelims on Friday 11/18 and Finals on Saturday 11/19
