Girls Varsity Cross Country finishes 17th at State Meet; Ava Alicandro caps career with All-State honors

Yesterday, the Girls Cross Country team competed in the MHSAA State Meet, having earned a trip to the finals by winning the MHSAA Regional last week. The Eagles finished 17th out of 29 teams, improving on last year's 19th place finish.
The highlight was senior Ava Alicandro's new personal record time of 18:07.1, a time which put her in 21st place in the race. For that finish, Ava earned All-State honors in her final competition.
Sophomore Morgan Scally also set a new PR at 19:31.4, crossing the line in 109th place. Sophomores Maya Pletzer (19:40. and Genevieve Connolly (20:09.9), and senior Alena Tiernan (20:14.3) were the other Eagles who contributed to the official score. Freshman Gracie Grzymkowski set a new PR with a time of (20:39.5), while Isabelle Verellen also ran for Lakeland.
