Boys Varsity Soccer finishes regular season with 3-2 victory over Fenton

Looking to improve on their Tuesday performance, the Eagles introduced a new three defensive back formation. They came out of the gate looking to press and get lots of shots on goal. This new formation was very effective and strikers and midfielders were able to test the goalie. #15 Ben Geromette was the first to break through 5 minutes into the game with a long floating shot from 35 yards out. One minute later, striker #10 Gabe Wright let off a hard direct shot from 20 yards that found the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. The Eagles continued to put pressure on the Tigers defense through the first half, but lost momentum in the last 10 minutes of the half. Fenton scored one goal with 4 minutes left in the half to make it 2-1.
As the grass field darkened in the second half, the Eagles continued to work on their formation and tactics, maintaining a lot of possession. It was not without a few chances from Fenton, but shots from distance were tended wide by the defense and goalie #1 Jay Hensley. Late in the game, #7 Jacob Dobrin took a corner kick directed to his brother #20 Zach Dobrin who one-timed his shot right towards the goal. It took a deflection off the defender and could not be stopped by the Fenton goalie as it rolled into the goal. Fenton quickly responded bringing the score back to 3-2 and despite several more chances from both teams, Eagles took the 3-2 win to end their regular season schedule.
The Eagles will face North Farmington on Tuesday for their first District matchup.
