Soccer opened its Lakes Valley Conference schedule this week against the South Lyon teams. On Monday, South Lyon East came to Szott Field. The first half proved to be fairly even with only small chances for both sides, but neither could break through. The second half started the same, but South Lyon East was awarded a PK for a foul inside the box eleven minutes in. Goalkeeper #1 Jay Hensley was up to the task and made the important save. A minute later, Jay had to make another big save at close range.
With 14 minutes remaining in the game, SLE crossed a ball that wasn't cleared quickly, bounced around and they took the 1-0 lead. One minute later, at the other end, #21 Brady Humitz had took a hard shot that bounced off the post and into the keepers hands. A few moments later #10 Gabe Wright had an opportunity for a quality shot, but it was blocked. Finally, with 12 minutes left, a South Lyon East blocked a cross with his arm, creating a penalty kick opportunity. #14 Thomas White stepped up to the spot and converted to bring the score level at 1-1. In the remaining 10 minutes, both teams pressed hard in a flurry of effort to create chances, but neither could add to their tally. The game ended in a draw at 1-1.
