Last night, the Boys Varsity Soccer team opened up MHSAA District playoff action with a game against Milford at Milford. As the game started, some wicked winds and rain moved through town, making for a challenging first half of action.  Accordingly, neither team scored, leaving the fate of each team’s season up to second half performances.

Lakeland turned out to be the team that rose to the occasion.  First, Elliott Smith scored off a corner kick to give Lakeland a 1-0 lead with 30 minutes remaining in the game.  20 minutes later,  Finn Weisgerber had a breakaway, racing past the goalie for an open shot and incredible goal to widen Lakeland's lead to two goals. Milford scored off a free kick with 5 minutes left, making it a 2-1 game; however, Lakeland held off the Mavericks to earn the 2-1 win.

Lakeland will now travel to Novi to take on a strong Detroit Catholic Central team.  That game will be played next Tuesday, October 18th at Novi Parkview Elementary.
