WALLED LAKE NORTHERN HIGH SCHOOL: 7
On Thursday, September 17th, the Varsity Football team finally opened up its 2020 season, defeating Bogie Lake Rd. rival Walled Lake Northern, 14-7.
It was a sluggish game characterized by missed opportunities and untimely turnovers, but considering the lack of preparation time and the uncertainty around even having a season, the Eagles were pleased to leave the field with the win.
Lakeland opened up the scoring on a 48-yard pass and catch combo from quarterback Tate Farquhar to wide-out Mike Sherrill. Sherrill avoided several Knights' defenders with some slick moves to cover the last 15 yards of the touchdown hook-up.
Later, Farquhar blasted through a hole to score a 6-yard touchdown to put the Eagles up 14-0. Farquhar led Lakeland with 109 yards rushing. The Eagles also had nice rushing yardage provided by newcomer Evan Percin.
Walled Lake Northern scored its only touchdown on a pass that was tipped by one Northern receiver into the hands of another Northern receiver. Besides that, the Lakeland defense was stingy and stout, making forward progress a challenging task for the Knights' offense.
Lakeland moves to 1-0 on the season. This Friday, the Eagles will host South Lyon East.
