This morning, the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams decided that both teams winning Regionals last year was not enough, as the runners on both teams repeated the feat, again bringing home two Regional trophies today.
Competing in the MHSAA Region 7-1 event in Royal Oak, the Boys team held off Milford and Detroit Catholic Central in taking first place. The Girls team rallied in the late stages of the race to pull past Novi and Milford to claim victory.
In the Boys race, Gavin Johns and Ayden McDonald finished 4th and 5th to lead Lakeland. Matthew Verellen and Jacob Kosidlo were right behind them, crossing the line in 7th and 8th place. With Michael Nivala finishing 5th, the Eagles finished with 39 points, beating Milford by 15 points. Brendan Humitz (19th) and Gabe Mahler (28th) also represented Lakeland.
