On Thursday February 29th, the Girls JV Basketball team closed out a 17-4 overall and 12-1 conference season defeating Walled Lake Northern 38-32. The Eagles came out on fire in the first quarter behind an opportunistic ¾ court press rushing out to a 21-5 lead. In the second quarter the Knights found their footing, slowing down the Eagles who were only able to extend their lead by 3 going into the break (30-11). The second half turned into a much different game. The Eagles struggled to score – only managing 3 field goals and 2 free throws for a total of 8 points. Walled Lake Northern on the other hand turned up the defensive pressure with their 3-2 zone causing the Eagles fits leading to many fast break points. Lakeland’s big lead to start proved crucial as they did enough to hold on at the end for the 6-point win.
Eagles scoring was balanced with 8 of 11 players tallying points. All four Eagle sophomores scored in their final JV game: Anna Linen (15), Haley Aberlich (8), Claire Linen (3) and Aly Dahm (2). Freshmen contributions came from Alyssa Goldman (5), Matilda Herron (2), Malena Wing (2), and Morgan Dial (1).
Lakeland Finishes the season 17-4. 12-1 in conference. (Four Game Winning Streak)
