Thursday, December 18, the Girls Junior Varsity Basketball team kicked off the first basketball showcase of the year vs Oxford. The Eagles came out with lots of energy on the defensive end trapping ¾ court forcing numerous Wildcat turnovers. Unfortunately, the Eagles struggled to turn these turnovers and fastbreak opportunities into points.
Going into the fourth quarter down ten points, the Eagles played with more intensity pulling the game close several times. Jaylyn Rhines, Lily Wang, and Annika Chinavare all were able to find the range scoring the quarter. Peyton Foote and Payton Gignac showed great hustle diving for loose balls out of bounds near the end of the game trying to keep the Eagles hopes alive. Despite the effort, Oxford was able to prevail with a 24-17 win.

Lakeland falls to 1-4 going into the holiday break and conference play.
