Monday December 8, the Girls Junior Varsity team kicked off the season by traveling to Lake Orion to face the Dragons.  The Eagles started the game with high energy and took a 3-2 lead early on thanks to a  three-pointer by Jaylyn Rhines.  Lake Orion though would own the rest of the quarter, taking a 10-3 lead at the break.   The second quarter scoring for Lakeland was again provided by Rhines on back-to-back possessions with nice driving layups.  The Dragons, however started to find their fast break game extending the lead 20-7 at halftime.  Coming out of halftime, the Eagles seemed to have settled down with Annika Chinavare scoring four points early, going 2/2 from the free throw line and making a nice left-handed layup.  Lake Orion responded in a big way, exploding for 15 third-quarter points, putting the game out of reach 35-11 at the end of the quarter.  Lakeland continued to play hard during the last 8 minutes with Scholastica Usen showing strength on a putback and a foul where she made the free-throw.  Overall, a good learning first game vs a very good and experienced Lake Orion team.  Eagles soring breakdown – sophomore Jaylyn Rhines (7 points) and a pair of freshman with their first high school points – Annika Chinavare (4 points) and Scholastica Usen (3 points).
