Last weekend, the Huron Valley United Gymnastics team took 1st place in their Regional meet, edging out the defending state champions Farmington United by .1. The Huron Valley team scored a 142.0, Farmington earned a 141.9. Grosse Pointe United scored a 139.675 making it a close meet for the top 3 teams, all of which earned the opportunity to compete in the State Finals (currently postponed).
In addition to the team advancing to the finals, 6 HVU individuals will move on to the individual finals. In the Division 1 category Rachel Palaian, Lakeland senior, will be competing in the vault, bars, and beam finals. Maeve Spicer, IA sophomore, will compete in the bars, beam, and floor events. In the Division 2 category Lakeland junior Nicole Graham and Lakeland freshman Ava Barwikowski will compete in the all-around. IA junior Sarah Prell will compete in the beam competition and Milford junior, Laura Nowicki will compete floor.
This is the first Regional Championship for the gymnastics team in its current Huron Valley only make-up.
Again, the State Meet for Individuals and Team was postponed yesterday with no future date identified for a potential make-up.
