Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team posts numerous personal bests on way to a 127-58 victory over South Lyon East

The Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team wrapped up its conference regular season schedule last Thursday with a home win over visiting South Lyon East, 127-58.

En route to winning the Medley Relay, freshman Elle Dameworth and Lauren McCaul swam personal best times on the backstroke and butterfly legs respectively.

In the 200 Freestyle, HVU saw senior Clara Periera and junior Sophia Begerska swim to personal bests along with Senior Paxton Moore swimming to a season best to win the event.

Several athletes notched new personal bests in the 200 IM including a trio of freshman: Katie Martinko, Lydia Henry and Ashley Raya.

The 50 freestyle also saw several great swims, with freshman Brooke Stec swimming to a new personal best and a second place finish to teammate Coral Hebert, as well as personal bests from freshman Abby Gordon and junior Lindsay Lamphear.

Thursday's Diving competition saw junior Jackie Gmyrek make her debut on the 1m springboard, where she took 4th place. She later followed up this performance with a personal best in the 100 backstroke.

In the 100 Butterfly, freshman Lauren McCaul swam to a new team record of 1:02.76 to take second place and sophomore Karolina Spiewak took 3rd in a personal best time as well.

Freshman Elle Dameworth was joined by senior Paxton Moore and junior Mallory Armstrong to sweep the 100 Freestyle, where Sophia Begerska, Abby Gordon and Lindsay Lamphear doubled down on their earlier performances with another trio of personal bests.

The 500 Freestyle saw 8 out of 9 athletes post personal best or season best performances en route to swimming the fastest 6 times on the night and 8 of the top 9.

The team closed out the night with 4 more event wins in both freestyle relays and in the 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke, where reshmen Elle Dameworth and Lauren McCaul swam to season and personal best times, respectively.

The athlete of the meet was senior Jessica Duff for her personal best in the 200 IM, and season best in the 500 and leading off the 400 free relay.

The final regular season competition for the team is a non-conference dual meet as HVU hosts Notre Dame Prep on Wednesday 10/27 for Senior Night.

Huron Valley finishes the LVC regular season with a 4-1 record and in strong position to bring home a conference championship at the league finals, 11/5-6 @ South Lyon East.
