Boys Varsity Skiing places 5th overall in the Alpine Division after the Divisional Championship meet

The Boys Ski Team competed in the Alpine Valley Divisional Championship on Thursday, Feb 6 against the nine other teams at Alpine Valley with some great conditions for ski racing, finally.

In the Boys race the Eagles fought with everything they had. A couple of the top racers went down in slalom and the boys ended up placing 5th overall in the Division, which showed there toughness to keep going despite the difficulties. The top racers for the boys in the morning slalom race were junior Tyson Lovejoy in 16th, senior Brenden Ploucha in 27th, junior Austin Schneider in 48th, and sophomore Carl Granger in 52nd for 8th place and 143 points. The boys took some ground back in the GS race with top results from Tyson Lovejoy with a personal best of 11th place, senior Zach Massey came in 15th, junior Jack Percy was 18th, senior Shane Herning was 20th, and Brenden Ploucha finished 37th for a 4th place in GS and a much improved 64 points. After all the points were tallied and the season records (4-5) factored in the Lakeland Boys finished 5th overall in the Alpine Division.

Next week the team will compete in the LVC Championship on Tuesday and the Region 3 Championship on Thursday, both at Alpine Valley beginning at 9am. The top 3 teams and top 10 individuals at the Regional will qualify for State on Feb 24 at Boyne Highlands.
