Girls Varsity Skiing finishes 3rd overall in Alpine Valley Divisional Championship meet

Game Date
Feb 6, 2020

The Girls Ski Team competed in the Alpine Valley Divisional Championship on Thursday, Feb 6 against the nine other teams at Alpine Valley with some great conditions for ski racing, finally.

The Girls had an awesome race which started with a 3rd place finish in the morning slalom race with 52.5 points. Top slalom racers for the girls were junior Brooke White in 6th overall, freshman Molly Lynch in 12th, senior Chloe Lynch in 16th, senior Angela Salmeto in 18th, and freshman Natalie Hoyer in 29th. The girls came back stronger in the afternoon GS race and took 2nd with 40 points. The girls laid down some amazing GS runs with Brooke White coming in the silver medal 2nd spot, Molly Lynch taking 4th, Angela Salmeto came in 15th, Chloe Lynch was 19th, and senior Autumn Christensen came in 23rd. The season record (7-2) is factored into the scoring of the championship and after all the team points were added up the Lakeland Girls were tied for 2nd with Marian. The 5th racer in both slalom and GS breaks the tie and the tie went to Marian putting Lakeland in 3rd place overall.

The top 3 teams in the Divisional qualify to go to the Southeast Michigan Ski League Championship on Feb 18 at Mt. Holly and our Lakeland Girls qualified!

Next week the team will compete in the LVC Championship on Tuesday and the Region 3 Championship on Thursday, both at Alpine Valley beginning at 9am. The top 3 teams and top 10 individuals at the Regional will qualify for State on Feb 24 at Boyne Highlands.
