This past weekend, the Huron Valley United Boy's Swim and Dive team traveled to Oakland University for the 2024 Division 1 State Championship meet. Individually, junior Brendan Marshall qualified for finals in a pair of events, earning state medals with a 12th place finish (and personal best) in the 200 Freestyle along with a 14th place finish in the 100 Butterfly. Sophomore Tommy Shaw placed 26th in the prelims of the 50 Freestyle and 29th in the prelims of the 100 Butterfly. Sophomore Layton Armstrong placed 37th in the prelims of the 50 Freestyle and 25th in the prelims of the 100 Breaststroke. Senior Till Bonau rounded out the individual swims with a personal best in the 100 Freestyle to place 20th overall on Day 1. After their individual events, the foursome of Bonau, Marshall, Shaw, and Armstrong teamed up to swim the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays. In the former, the team set a new program record of 1:28.39 en route to winning the consolation finals, finishing 9th overall in the state. Brendan Marshall set a new program record in the 50 freestyle on the lead off leg on Saturday's finals swim. The group saved their best for last, touching the wall in 8th place in the 400 Freestyle relay, earning 1st Team All-State honors for their efforts and setting new team records in prelims and Finals. Marshall, Shaw, Armstrong and Bonau became the first Boys Relay team to earn Division 1 First team All-State honors in district history.
